Hello there! It's my second post in the new World Map Pin community! Trying to do the tag as well! If you haven't read about them, please take a look at this link.

As background, I have done a few overseas trips last year, as some of my friends here would know, and I have been wanting to share some of the interesting places that I have visited. However, life has been busy and I have been procrastinating penning these entries and recently, I revisited this target of mine and finally broke the inertia!

One of my memorable trips in 2023 was to Tokyo, Japan, and during that trip, I did quite a few day trips to nearby cities and towns. Earlier this year, I wrote about visiting the peaceful Karuizawa, the scenic Atami, and a little about Nikko. In this post, I will continue on my journey in Nikko.

Moving further into the nature, we reached the main attraction of Nikko, which is the Toshogu Shrine. Wow it's a really big shrine! Here's are some photos at the entrance.

As you can see, it's a very big area with a lot of stairs to climb as well. Here are more photos of the area.

Am not really a fan of history, so I didn't read on up what all these buildings and sculptures were about. But it's really an interesting place, with the shrine located within the nature and the trees and woods in the background. We even spotted some wild life too!

As we continued walking deeper into the shrine, we were met with this sign that said we have to climb 207 steps to reach the Inner Shrine! My friend and I hesitated, but since we already travelled all the way here, we felt that we had to do it. So we climbed our way up, at a pace which we were comfortable with.

And we made it!

Reading the description, it did feel kind of creepy that some Lord is buried beneath the pagoda, which was what we saw in this photo.

The view was a little underwhelming for that 207 steps of climbing, and we had to make our way down the same way as well. It wasn't as tiring as going up but we had to be extra careful with each step as well. More shrines and sculptures to see!

And finally we were done with Toshogu Shrine!

With that, that's all for my sharing for Nikko for the second part. Do catch the next part where we head towards other interesting attractions in Nikko and we also stopped by for some yummy cakes too! Also, let me know in the comments if you have been to Nikko, and what are your thoughts about this place?

Finally, thanks for reading my post in the community and the second one under World Map Pin! More to come I promise! :)

P.S. I have also tried to document my posts in one table so it's easy to reference too!

Greetings. First time I've seen the follow up to this post, but I was captured by the images and the story. Japan is definitely a country longed for by many of us. You will literally be able to stand on any corner there and capture a good image with so much out there. I'll take a look at the other parts of this trip 😁.

Hey! Thanks for dropping by! Yeah, I try to find time to write about my travels. It does take some time to organise the photos and group them. Yeah, there are many interesting places to explore in Japan, from the city to the outskirts! Thanks for the comment and stay tuned!

Yeah some parts of Japan were very hot during summer (hotter than Singapore!) - fortunately Nikko was not so bad. Thanks for dropping by!
