The adventure. Rosetta Summit

In the previous post, we introduced the town of San Martino di Castrozza, with its unique architecture and beauty, and we agreed to write another post about the adventure of climbing the mountain. As promised, here's the story.

Day One

The morning of July 27th dawned somewhat cool and cloudy. I never imagined I'd find something very different at the top. The climb can be done entirely on foot, or there's also the option of doing it in two stages by cable car.

On a hill near the town center is the station, which is the starting point for this unique journey. There, we took a Colverde Cabina, which ascends to an altitude of approximately 1,954 meters.

From there we began to feel the changes in the weather, as the temperature felt cold, forcing us to grab our coats. In addition, fog appeared, obscuring our view of the town from that height.

We spent a short stay at Baitra Colverde, a very cozy mountain restaurant. We only stayed long enough to have a coffee and adjust to the changing temperatures.

Very close by is the station from which the other cable car departs for Rosetta Peak. This trip is longer and the ascent is steeper.

As we climbed, we got closer to the clouds, until we were completely surrounded by them.

When we reached the final station, the fog was so thick that we could only see a few meters in front of us.

We made another stop at the Funivia Rosetta Bar-Restaurant, at an altitude of 2,730 meters. There's a viewpoint from which you can admire breathtaking views, although we weren't able to appreciate it on that first climb, as everything was white, with the exception of a few peaks that stood out.

Around noon, the sun briefly appeared and managed to penetrate the thick cloud cover, allowing us to take a photo of the Rosetta Mountain Refuge. This refuge is frequently used by mountaineers for overnight stays when they are spending days exploring and climbing the surrounding peaks.

That's how the rest of the day went, with not much more to tell or show, because after that brief attempt by the sun, there weren't many opportunities. It was at that moment that we decided to try our luck the next day.

Day Two

On July 28th, we woke up early and as soon as we left the hotel, we noticed the change: it was hot! We repeated the same route, with the same stops, and everything was flowing wonderfully.

At this point, I don't think a story is necessary, because as an ancient proverb, I think Chinese, says, "a picture is worth a thousand words." And instead of one picture, I'm sharing a few more, so you do the math for yourself 😁

In short, climbing to the summit of Rossetta was a fantastic adventure, full of surprises and unexpected events, but worth every minute we spent there. I confess something: I don't know if it's because I live in a place where mountains that high don't exist, but I truly felt insignificant in the face of such natural majesty.

Did you enjoy the story? I hope so, and I hope you'll leave me your comments.
