30 Pictures 30 Stories Challenge - Day 12 – My Lowry Room with a View
I was inspired by thisismylife's recent blogging challenge on @liketu, 'The 30 Pictures 30 Stories Challenge'.
They were originally inspired by rubencress '30 day not-so ordinary ordinary items challenge' and I find both challenges a great way to encourage daily posting on hive.
This challenge is pretty open-ended; please feel free to follow my formula, or thisismylife's or rubencress' challenge structures listed in their posts linked above 🔼
The only stipulations are that you post one picture a day with a personal story attached to it for 30 days.
Write your story/anecdote to the best of your ability, and use the tag #30stories and/or the #notsoordinary tag if you're following rubencress' challenge. It is also advised to use the #challenge tag.
As I am a professional writer outside of hive blockchain, and as I only dabble as an amateur photographer, I thought I would follow thisismylife's challenge format to tell some stories and anecdotes about my strange life.
I consider myself extremely lucky to live where I do, nestled in the Georgian Quarter of Liverpool. Especially having a top-floor flat right at the peak of a hill that overlooks a Lowry-esque roof-scape that never fails to fascinate me as I eat my breakfast.
For anyone interested in art, L.S.Lowry was born in 1887 in Stretford in Manchester in the North West of England. As a student, he studied at the Manchester School of Art, under the French Impressionist, Pierre Adolphe Valette.
Lowry is most famous for his paintings depicting industrial districts of North West England in the mid-20th century. He has a distinctive style, with the hustle and bustle of industrial activities portrayed by almost 'matchstick-like men' and his use of perspective in the way he paints buildings is genius.
I can find no creative commons licence images of his artwork, which isn't surprising but you can find a link to the google images search results for Lowry here.
If you take a look at some of those paintings you might see why I feel so blessed as a fan of Lowry's work, as I have my own perpetual Lowry painting right there in the window of my living room.
Whenever I'm lacking inspiration for my writing I go to one of two places - The Anglican Cathedral which I recently wrote about, or I just stand at my window for a few minutes to clear my mind, make space for ideas, and drink in the spirit of the city.

I have never seen Lowry’s work so had a quick peek at the link. He has a very distinctive style! He really shows the English industrial period doesn’t he! Love his use of scattered people too. It made me feel like I was people watching from a window somewhere safe and warm.
Yeah, you're right about the people in Lowry's paintings. And that's definitely the main thing missing from my Lowry-esque living room view.
Apart from one time, when they were filming a period drama on the road opposite my living room, that view stays quite static. Like it's all about the buildings and roof-scape.
Lowry is a cracking artist though, I'm glad to have introduced them to you 🙂
