Enjoying Hoi An's Lanterns

If you're planning a trip to Vietnam, let me share a slice of my recent adventure in Hoi An, a gem that deserves a spot on your itinerary. During my five-day visit, I discovered activities that are unique and experiences of a lifetime, perfect for any traveller looking to capture the essence of Vietnam.

First off, don't miss out on the round boat ride through the bamboo forests. While it is a common tourist activity in the area, it's one well worth doing. Manoeuvring these traditional boats offers a hands-on glimpse into the local way of life and a peaceful escape from the busy Old Town. It's an authentic experience that connects you with Vietnam's natural beauty and traditional culture in a way that few other activities can.

One word of warning, though. The staff at the boats will try to overcharge you very significantly. We were initially quoted 700,000 VND for the ride, but we bartered it down to 200,000 for two people.

This isn't just for the 'gram (although you will get some stunning photos!); it's an enchanting experience that transports you to another world. The lanterns, with their soft glow, add a romantic and mystical atmosphere to the town, making every evening stroll unforgettable. Trust me, the sight of these lanterns will stay with you long after your trip.

Perhaps the most soul-stirring activity was taking a boat down the Hoi An River and releasing a lantern with a candle into the water. This simple act felt incredibly meaningful, a way to connect with the local traditions and send out a silent wish into the universe.
