Wernigerode. The castle

In the previous post about Wernigerode, we left out the medieval castle that stands atop the highest point in the region.

The castle can be reached on foot, although it is not recommended as the slopes are quite steep and require significant physical effort. There are also alternative routes, such as horse-drawn carriages and a small train. These can be boarded in the town center for a modest fee and take you right to the castle entrance.

Fortunately, and unfortunately, the castle was undergoing restoration. The positive side is that this work improves the castle's construction, which at first glance is necessary, as the passage of time has already left its mark on the high walls. The negative side is that we were unable to access many places, especially the interior areas.

Despite its condition, the castle displays its elegance and opulence, and from there, there is a stunning view of the town. It features beautiful, well-maintained gardens outside, as well as a fountain in front of the main building's entrance.

The photos show all these details, as well as the scaffolding and materials used in the restoration.

En la publicación anterior de Wernigerode dejamos pendiente mostrar el castillo medieval que se alza en la cima del lugar m;as alto de la región.

Al castillo se puede llegar andando, aunque no es lo mas recomendable pues las laderas de la elevación son bastante empinadas y se requiere de un esfuerzo físico importante para lograrlo. También hay vias alternativas, como coches tirados por caballos y un trencito. Estos pueden ser abordados en el centro del pueblo por un módico precio y te llevan hasta la misma entrada del castillo.

Afortunadamente y lamentablemente el castillo estaba en fase de restauración. La parte positiva es que con estos trabajos se mejoran las condiciones constructivas del castillo, que a simple vista se nota que ya son necesarias, pues el paso del tiempo ha dejado ya sus huellas en las altas murallas y paredes. Lo negativo es que no pudimos acceder a muchos lugares, sobre todo en areas interiores.

A pesar de su estado, el castillo muestra su elegancia y su opulencia y desde allí hay una vista impresionante del pueblo. Cuenta con jardines preciosos y muy bien cuidados en las áreas exteriores, al igual que una fuente frente a la misma entrada de la edificación principal.

En las fotos podrán apreciar todos estos detalles, así como los andamios y materiales utilizados en la restauración.
