Walking Havana. The people

Entry to #monomad Challenge

About three years ago, I did a series of posts on the subject of Havana, but these were more oriented toward architectural and cityscape photography. Then, I was away from Hive for two long years, and I was left wanting to take some photos where the central theme was the people of Havana. Today, I'm sharing a group of black and white photos of people going about their daily activities: a couple enjoying the cool breeze on the Malecón, a woman strolling and taking photos of Morro Castle in the distance, fishing enthusiasts in the middle of the action, a musician rehearsing in a park, a young woman waiting for someone to pick her up in a car, an elderly woman with a cigar who offered to pose for me to take an impromptu portrait, and the cover photo, an inspired trumpet player at sunset.

In short, photos of the everyday people we encounter every day as we walk the streets. I confess that this type of photography is the one I like the most. That freshness and spontaneity are difficult to achieve when working with models. Don't get me wrong, I greatly respect and admire those who do it—very professionally, by the way—something that doesn't come easily to me.

One more thing. I decided to use black and white and blur the backgrounds to avoid any distractions that superfluous details could bring to the photos.

Hace unos tres años hice una serie de publicaciones sobre el tema de La Habana, pero estas estaban más bien orientadas a la foto de arquitectura y de paisajes de ciudad. Luego estuve ausente de Hive por unos dos largos años y se me quedó pendiente hacer unas fotos donde el tema central fuera la gente en La Habana. Precisamente hoy le comparto un grupo de fotos en blanco y negro, sobre la gente en sus actividades habituales: Una pareja tomando el fresco que corre en el malecón, una mujer paseando y haciendo fotos al Castillo del Morro en la distancia, aficionados a la pesca en plena faena, un músico ensayando en un parque, una muchacha esperando que alguien la recoja en un auto, una anciana con un tabaco que se ofreció para posar para que le hiciera un retrato improvisado y la foto de portada, un trompetista inspirado en pleno atardecer.

En fin, fotos de la gente común y corriente que nos encontramos a diario cuando andamos por las calles. Confieso que ese tipo de fotografía es la que más me gusta. Esa frescura y espontaneidad espontaneidad difícilmente puede lograrse cuando trabajamos con modelos. No me interpreten mal, respeto y admiro mucho a los que lo hacen, por cierto, muy profesionalmente, cosa que a mi no se me da con facilidad 😃.

Una cosa más. Decidí utilizar el blanco y negro y el desenfoque de los fondos para evitar cualquier tipo de distracción que detalles superfluos puedan aportar a las fotos.
