Walked Mestre 🇮🇹

I found Mestre by chance, because when I planned my trip to Venice, I found accommodation there. It was the closest available place to the island.

Sometimes what happens is for the best, because I had the opportunity to see a place that would not have been possible otherwise, and which is also about 15 minutes away from the island by train or bus at most.

I went out walking through the streets without a predefined route, taking my time to observe the places carefully and taking a good number of photographs.

I walked to the Mestre Centro stop to memorize the route from the house where I was staying, since I had to take the train from there the next day. I was very impressed by this means of transportation, which seemed very nice, modern, and comfortable to me. I continued on and noticed that there is good bus transportation coverage as well.

Regarding the city’s architecture, in my non-expert opinion, it is quite heterogeneous, as I could see that modern buildings coexist very close to very old ones, but most of them are very well maintained. I really liked the facades with arches that allow access to large inner courtyards where vehicles are parked. Others are made of exposed brick with tall columns and beautifully decorated roofs despite their age.

Then I walked along a kind of pedestrian boulevard with red tiled pavement that leads directly to a square where there is a medieval tower (Torre dell’Orologio or Clock Tower). On both sides of that street, there are numerous cafes and other shops that give the city great life. I won’t bother you with too many details; I’ll just say that I walked around for quite a while taking photos of beautiful places, and I’m sharing some pictures so you can appreciate it.

Te cuento que conocí a Mestre de forma casual, pues cuando planifiqué mi viaje a Venecia, fue allí donde encontré hospedaje. Era el sitio disponible más cercano a la isla.

A veces lo que sucede conviene, pues tuve la oportunidad de conocer un lugar que de otra forma no habría sido posible y que además, se encuentra a unos 15 minutos en tren o en ómnibus como máximo de la isla.

Salí a caminar por las calles sin un rumbo predefinido, me tomé mi tiempo para observar bien los lugares y aproveché para hacer una buena cantidad de fotografías.

Caminé hasta la parada de Mestre Centro, para aprenderme el trayecto desde la casa donde estaba hospedado, pues allí debía tomar el tren al día siguiente. Me impresionó mucho este medio de transporte que me pareció muy bonito, moderno y confortable. Seguí mi camino y pude apreciar que hay una buena cobertura de transporte por ómnibus.

En cuanto a la arquitectura de la ciudad, en mi opinión de no especialista, es bastante heterogénea, pues pude apreciar que coexisten edificios modernos muy cercanos a otros muy antíguos, pero eso si, la mayoría de ellos muy bien cuidados. Me gustaron mucho las fachadas con arcos que permiten el acceso hacia patios interiores amplios, donde aparcan los vehículos. Otros de ladrillo descubierto con altas columnas y techo adornado de gran belleza a pesar de sus años.

Luego transité por una especie de boulevard peatonal con el suelo enchapado en lozas rojas que conduce directamente hasta una plaza donde hay una torre medieval (Torre dell’Orologio o Torre del Reloj). A ambos lados de esa calle hay numerosas cafeterías y otros comercios que le dan gran vida a la ciudad.

No te voy a atormentar con tantos detalles, solo te diré que caminé bastante rato haciendo fotos de lugares preciosos y te dejo unas fotos para que puedas apreciarlo.
