Proof of Brain photo contest - Ladoga travels .:. visual story in 15 photo
My post goes for POBPhotocontest by @friendlymoose.
'Travel' was this week's topic -- promising, isnt it?
I'd like to show you a few pics from my trips to Ladoga lake skerries -- I used to visit it on a regular basis, always trying to spend there at least a week or more each year.
In my archive I have folders for years 2006, 2007, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019... and I always was taking quite a lot of pics, so it might be a hard to task to choose!
A typical north Ladoga landscape. Melted granites, lichens, and no soil at all.
I fall in love with this land almost immediately, from the first sight, as they say.
Why does granite look like soft ice cream that has melted in the sun? The glacier has ironed it for hundreds of thousands of years. And it is amazing place of power, one can feel it.
I keep THE HORIZON stable. IT IS WEIGHTY!!!
These trips were different - a few times we rented two sailboats and sailed for 10 days, exploring the beautiful environment of virgin ladoga skerries (above is picture of our second boat, the one I was on was the same). Oh, I forgot to mention, most of the photos in this post is from this first trip back in June 2006.
...and practiced a lot in rowing ... By the time Canon 50mm 1.8 was my only (!) lens, and it served me well about 8 years, was apparently the only tool in my amateur photographer arsenal. A cool fact I still remember with passion: by the time I already had my first digital camera, Canon 'Digital rebel' 350D, so - particularly for this 1st travel to Ladoga lake (me and my wife arranged it with a group of our friends), we obtained some basic tourist gear (like tent); AND we obtained this cheap 50mm lens. So, I brought no panoramic and wide-angle captures from that trip.
Only close-ups! Hardcore ;)
You can see me with this camera in this photo. Zoom? This lens has no zoom! any zoom is carried out exclusively with your feet! therefore, if I wanted to get a larger panorama in the frame, I stepped back or climbed higher, I even climbed a tree, as you can see. Hardcore, yes.
Me onboard of our boat - name is 'Gravitzapa'
There were evening meetings around the fire - drinking and singing and nice talks .... the most enjoyable part of the trip. Yes, fresh air and physical activity are very beneficial for your health - and appetite. Therefore, during this kind of travel, all thoughts revolve around having your meal, which become very significant milestones of each day, lol
Obviously, we did not expect the garcons to bring us the ordered food - we had to cook it ourselves, including firewood, a fire, and washing dishes ... so I didn’t have much time to photograph this process, and accordingly there are almost no such photos.
The meals production in the process.
Calling for the dinner. -- Always Ready !!!!
By the way, you may be curious what is that strange pink rusty thingie in this frame, looking like a bomb. Nope, its not a bomb - just a buoy thrown ashore by water. Bullet marks are visible on it - hunters visiting the island apparently used it as a target. A strange, unusual, exciting object that was interesting to discover among the virgin nature. (It’s bad, there will suddenly become a lot of such objects, and you won’t see the most virgin nature behind them ...)
This three-seat tent (we obtained it, considering our planned baby to join us in the future trips) was our happy home for almost ten days. Goodbye, Ladoga! Time to part ways, but we promised to be back -- and still keep that promise.

You are right the granite does look like melted ice cream hahaha
What a stunning place, easily to fall in love with. 🥰

o, did somebody said !PIZZA ?!! meowwwww!
thanks for your visit. btw -- it was a series of travels, on yearly basis, the exact locations were different and the teams were very different each time, but nature... Ladoga's northern nature is pretty the same, and it is beautiful, of course, quite in another way than the nature of southern Europe. 😛
Yep, Bon appetite!
Ok, understand… but the same place. So different than here in Southern Europe, you are right. Beautiful.
You are welcome @qwerrie 👋🏻☀️😁

Very cool and beautiful travel photos plus great memories that came with them.
Grazie Mille! glad you liked it.
Welcome and thank you too.
Really a very beautiful place and full of memories for you @qwerrie, At first I thought that it was just a lake but it turned out to be the sea. 😁👍
it is a lake - the biggest lake of Europe. visually it is like a sea, indeed, very huge! thanks for your visit. do jump the contest - it is fun!
hah really?, this is the first time I see a lake that is very similar to the sea. It looks like the lake is really the largest in Europe or even the world @qwerrie. 😁
I had the same experience several times in the early 2000s (we had smaller boats). An amazing place. I want to come back one day. There is a way to go into the wild of the skerries on feet, by the way. A bridge to Kilpola island https://www.google.com/maps/@61.2107052,29.894912,3268m/data=!3m1!1e3 I was on the northeast shore of Kilpola (by boat) - we saw a seal there.
Less virgin but still the same nature, a trail along Ladoga relatively near the train station.
ha.
I was there! Ofc it is a good substitute to nothing, but getting a boat and camping on the isles that have no car access is far, far, far better choice. believe me. I have a long established communication with a very good touring guide (that is vk.com-based) that is cheap, they suggest a little ship (not boat) to lend with the captain and crew, and plan 5-day voyages - to check as much isles as possible. ship is used just for the purpose of fast group delivery to the route, and then to dispatch us from one isle to another (and all our weight!). and inbetween - absolutely tourist life during the camps, as it used to be. this operator is very cheap, reliable, proven and honest. it is the best imo. only thanks to its prices we went on these trips from 2012 to 2019. If you get some money, I highly recommend this option, and by the way, we might even team up. but this is in a vague future, I understand that in the current financial circumstances, going to Karelia for money is not a priority. but... it's a magical place.
!BEER
Kilpola is diverse...
But anyway, this year my way must lead to the South.

I have never been to such a landscape, without any soil. Amazing.
looks like an ancient lava to me (well, it was a lava billion years ago). there even exist some rocks (more to the north - named Kenozero) in this area with petroglyfs, left here by the ancient men. but I wasnt there, cant tell a story... great place, a place of power. glad you enjoyed the pics. let me bribe you with a Hive !PIZZA 🍕 😜 🍕
Thanks for sharing your memories. Looks like you had a great time!
