Illuminating the night, one "diya" at a time - Diwali

avatar

Diwali is a festival of lights that is celebrated with a variety of activities. One of the important aspect of Diwali celebrationn is illuminating diyas. The mud made artefacts are easily available and importsnt part of Diwali celebration. Diyas are important on Diwali because they symbolize the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. And here it what takes to lit so many of them.

Diwali is a celebration of the Hindu epic, the Ramayana, which tells the story of Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana returning home to Ayodhya after 14 years in exile. To welcome them home, the citizens of Ayodhya are said to have lit diyas in the streets. Continuing on the tradition we still follow and lit diyas as many as can. The other important event of Diwali is bursting crackers. There were many crackers that simply brings lives to the sky.

The warm glow of a diya is considered auspicious and represents enlightenment, prosperity, knowledge, and wisdom. Diyas are thought to drive away negativity, darkness, and evil spirits. By lighting diyas in different parts of your home, you welcome deities like Lakshmi, Ganesha, and Kuber into your home. The number of diyas lit can have different meanings, such as five diyas for the five elements, eleven diyas for Goddess Lakshmi, or fourteen diyas on Naraka Chaturdashi. Each diya represents a flicker of hope and positivity.

However with the passage of time, these diyas are losing their charm. People have find alternative way of illuminating their homes. From LED bulbs to candles, they choose them as they stay lit for longer time. The diyas were lit using oil or ghee. But having candles is much cost effective. Buy to enjoy the festival diyas were must. The festival is incomplete without these diyas. It was great ocassion and we enjoyed thoroughly.

Enjoy the life!!
