Hola, amigos de Hiver. Espero que se encuentren muy bien. Hoy quiero contarles sobre un viaje que hice recientemente en moto desde Medellín hasta La Unión, un trayecto de aproximadamente 2 horas y unos 60 kilómetros.

El motivo principal de este paseo fue visitar el lugar donde ocurrió un trágico accidente aéreo: el del equipo de fútbol brasileño Chapecoense. Muchos recuerdan esta dolorosa historia. El avión se estrelló contra una montaña en esta zona cuando transportaba al equipo y a varios periodistas. Fue una pérdida enorme.
El accidente ocurrió el 28 de noviembre de 2016, cuando el vuelo LaMia 2933, que transportaba al equipo de fútbol brasileño Chapecoense, se estrelló en una zona montañosa cerca de La Unión, Antioquia, Colombia.

El equipo viajaba para disputar la final de la Copa Sudamericana contra el Atlético Nacional en Medellín. A bordo iban 77 personas, entre jugadores, cuerpo técnico, periodistas y tripulación. Solo 6 personas sobrevivieron, y entre los fallecidos estaban 19 jugadores del equipo.

Las investigaciones revelaron que el avión se quedó sin combustible debido a una cadena de negligencias y mala planificación por parte de la aerolínea. Fue una tragedia que conmovió al mundo entero, no solo por la pérdida de vidas, sino por el sueño que representaba este viaje para el equipo: su primera gran final internacional.
Hoy, el lugar del accidente se ha convertido en un espacio de memoria y reflexión.
Con el tiempo, los habitantes del pueblo han convertido este sitio en un lugar turístico. A pesar de ser una zona montañosa y solitaria donde se cultiva papa, ahora tiene más vida gracias al interés de los visitantes. Fuimos a un lugar donde hay un avión instalado como monumento, junto a piezas reales del accidente. El lugar también cuenta con un restaurante muy bonito, con animales y un ambiente campestre muy acogedor.

Desde allí, puedes subir a caballo o caminar (aproximadamente 30 minutos) hasta el sitio exacto de la tragedia. Allí construyeron una capilla y una pared con las fotos de quienes fallecieron y quienes sobrevivieron. Es una experiencia conmovedora. No solo viajaban jugadores, también iban periodistas y miembros del cuerpo técnico. En el lugar también colocaron varias cruces que representan a cada una de las víctimas.

El viaje en sí fue muy especial. Desayunamos una rica cachapa (arepa de choclo) en el camino. Fue una experiencia bonita pero también muy reflexiva.

Visitar lugares históricos como este nos hace pensar en lo frágil que es la vida. A veces, por errores humanos o malas decisiones, se pierden muchas vidas llenas de sueños. Es doloroso, pero también nos enseña. Por eso, debemos vivir como si fuera el último día, hacer lo que amamos, no dejar nada para después y seguir creyendo que Dios siempre tiene algo bueno para nosotros.

Hello, friends from Hiver! I hope you're all doing great. I want to share with you a recent motorcycle trip I took from Medellín to La Unión, which is approximately a 2-hour ride and about 60 kilometers.

The main purpose of this trip was to visit the place where a tragic plane crash happened — the one involving the Brazilian football team Chapecoense. Many of you may remember this heartbreaking story. The plane crashed into a mountain in this area while carrying the team along with several journalists. It was a devastating loss.

The accident occurred on November 28, 2016, when LaMia Flight 2933, carrying the Brazilian football team Chapecoense, crashed in a mountainous area near La Unión, Antioquia, Colombia.

The team was on its way to play the Copa Sudamericana final against Atlético Nacional in Medellín. There were 77 people on board, including players, coaching staff, journalists, and crew. Only 6 people survived, and among the victims were 19 Chapecoense players.

Investigations revealed that the plane ran out of fuel due to a series of negligent decisions and poor planning by the airline. It was a tragedy that shocked the entire world — not only for the loss of life but also because this flight represented a dream: the team's first-ever international final.

Today, the crash site has become a place of remembrance and reflection.

Over time, the locals have turned the site into a kind of memorial and tourist destination. Although it's a mountainous and quiet area mainly used for growing potatoes, it now has more life thanks to visitors coming to pay their respects. We visited a spot where there is a plane monument, along with some actual parts from the crash. There's also a beautiful countryside restaurant with animals and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

From there, you can either ride a horse or walk (around 30 minutes) to the actual crash site. There, you’ll find a chapel and a wall filled with pictures of those who died and those who survived. It’s a powerful and emotional experience. It wasn’t just football players — journalists and staff members were also on board. Several crosses were placed there to represent each one of the victims.

The entire trip was very special. We had a delicious breakfast — a cachapa (sweet corn arepa) — on the way. It was a beautiful experience, but also a deeply reflective one.

Visiting places like this makes you think about how fragile life is. Sometimes, because of human error or bad decisions, we lose people full of dreams and passion. It’s painful, but it also teaches us something. That’s why we should live every day as if it were our last. Don’t leave for tomorrow what you want to do today. Keep believing that God always has something good for you.
