About my picture
Recently I was sitting in a waiting room and had to wait there for 2 hours, despite having an appointment.
Fortunately, it was a typical waiting room. There was a table in the middle of the room with a wide variety of magazines on it. Among the many printed publications, I actually found something that interested me - a science magazine with a great cover story titled “Easter Islands”.
I really find the topic of the Moai sculptures exciting. Because there are all sorts of theories, some of them very controversial, that offer lots of fuel for my imagination.
One of these controversial theories involves the sudden disappearance of the entire island civilization. One of the more popular theories describes a rather slow dwindling of the population there, leading to complete extinction.
The article also described that the term “moai heads” is misleading, as they also have bodies, but these are buried in the ground
Well, all this information fueled my imagination and I imagined all kinds of scenarios around this topic.
I also imagined a scenario in which the former inhabitants of the island had moved underground to protect themselves from tsunamis and storms. Wouldn't that be a logical step if you are constantly exposed to the forces of nature on the surface?
In my imagination, at least, it made perfect sense.
I had already stopped reading long ago and was now dreaming of the fantastic Easter Island culture that nowadays lives in the underground of the island.
Of course, this is all just bullshit. But thinking bullshit is fun. Because you're the boss of your bullshit and can do whatever you want in it.
Or as Klaus Kinski used to say: “Whoever runs the show is the boss!”
I took this idea home with me and as soon as I had time, I took a snapshot of this daydream using my PC.

Ich saß neulich in einem Wartezimmer und musste dort 2 Stunden, trotz Termin warten.
Zum Glück, war es ein typisches Wartezimmer. In mitten des Raumes stand ein Tisch, auf dem sich unterschiedlichste Zeitschriften befanden. Tatsächlich fand ich unter den vielen Druckerzeugnissen, auch etwas das mich interessierte - Ein Wissenschaftsmagazin mit dem tollen Titelthema "Oster Inseln".
Ich finde das Thema rund um die Moai-Skulpturen wirklich spannend. Denn dazu gibt es allerlei, teil sehr kontroverse Theorien, die jede Menge Material für meine Fantasie bieten.
Eine dieser kontroversen Theorien, besagt ein plötzliches Verschwinden, der gesamten Insel-Zivilisation. Eine der populäreren Theorien, beschreibt ein eher langsames Schwinden der Population, bis hin zur völligen Ausrottung.
Im Artikel wurde auch beschrieben, dass der Begriff "Moai-Köpfe" irreführend ist, da sie auch Körper haben, die sich jedoch unter der Erdoberfläche befinden.
Nun, all diese Informationen befeuerten meine Fantasie und ich stellte mir alle möglichen Szenarion zu dieser Thematik vor.
So stellte ich mir unter anderem vor, dass die einstigen Bewohner der Insel, zum Schutze vor Tsunamis und Stürmen in das innere der Insel, unter die Erde umgezogen seien. Wäre das nicht ein logischer Schritt, wenn man an der Oberfläche andauernd den Naturgewalten ausgesetzt ist?
In meiner Fantasie, jedenfalls, machte das absolut Sinn.
Ich hatte längst aufgehört zu lesen und träumte nun von der fantastischen Oster-Insel Kultur, die nun unterirdisch weiter existiert.
Das ist natürlich alles nur Blödsinn. Aber Blödsinn denken, macht Spaß. Denn man ist der Chef in seinem Blödsinn und kann darin machen was man will.
Oder wie Klaus Kinski zu sagen pflegte: "Wer die Show macht, ist der Boss!"
Ich nahm diese Vorstellung mit nach Hause und alsbald ich Zeit hatte, bastelte ich mir einen Schnappschuss von diesem Tagtraum am PC.
Materials and creation
The scene was completely modeled in Blender 3D and then I did the final touches in GIMP - improving the lights, applying LUTs, establishing chaos...
I borrowed the moai head and the bushes from other artists (royalty free).

Die Szene habe ich komplett in Blender 3D modelliert und anschließend in GIMP die letzten Handgriffe getätigt - Lichter verbessern, LUTs anwenden, Chaos etablieren...
Den Moai-Kopf und die Büschen, habe ich mir von anderen Künstlern geliehen (Royalty Free).

You did a good job of explaining this. But I never managed to learn enough about Blender and Gimp to make the content digestible.

I had similar experiences with Blender until I learned that I needed to learn how to stage things instead of how to do complex work in Blender. That made my artistic life a lot easier and Blender a more obedient slave. In the end, this also pushed up my learning curve.
Most of it is just stage magic. I really regret not knowing that from day one.
