Hideo Kojima always comes up with great designs and stories...i think that guy dreamed of being a movie director like Christopher Nolan and that weird/epic stuff

And yes, personally, well, this game remember me more a Andréi Tarkovski cinema style than Nolan (exceptin from Dunkerke and his contemplative scenes) but i fell the ilosolate ambients of this game like this russian cinema style form the 80's and of course a distant Kurosawa elements.
That's you mention about Nolan is really interesting and good way to appreciate the art of video games more than a game if self, if you see the all disciplines that are involve in the game production easyly you can classify the video games as a new octave art of the human era.
