2024 has been a very full and often hectic year for me so far. Changing homes and provinces meant a lot of packing and unpacking, administrative work, home improvement and yard work. Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful for my new home, but free time seems to have dwindled. Now that I don't live in a city and an smallish apartment, there always seems just one more thing to do.

I am hoping with my garden now retired for the season, the roof and back door fixed. the deck and most of the walls repainted ... my bedroom still looks like Dracula got his freak on within its red and brown walls ... I am hoping I will have more time to blog on HIVE. I have missed our daily interaction.

I have also been learning to drive. There was never much use for it in the city, but up here in northern Alberta, having wheels is an essential. Hoping to have my licence and car by the end of the month. Nothing too extravagant, but a 4-wheel drive is essential for when the snow comes. I am not looking forward to the drop in temperatures and the white rain. We arrived here at the start of May and it has been a very beautiful year so far, weather-wise. I am fan of snow shoeing and ice skating, and have always wanted to take up cross-country sking, but I also know from being a child growing up on the prairies that snow loses its charm come late January. Fingers-crossed a winter escape to some places warmer is in our future.

We have traded the ocean-side living of Vancouver, for the Big Skies and rolling prairies of Alberta, and boy have the skies not disappointed. I snatch these shots as I walked some laps around the park just outside my door and the aurora was from my back deck. Wow ... right. I was closing my drapes before hitting the figurative hay. Even through the glass panes, the northern lights were a show stopper. Needles to say, I stayed up a little bit later. The stars too here are amazing. I looked up one night to see the Milky Way hanging out like a party ribbon over my roof. It may be there in big city but light pollution shouts it out. In Vancouver, you can literally count the stars in the sky. Good luck doing that here. Well once the sun finally sets. In high summer, it is a bit of wait.

Wild life abounds in these parts. Black bears are as common as raccoons in Stanley Park. Thankfully, they aren't generally much bigger than a dog and maintain their distance. Lots of deer, foxes and elk too. It was lovely to drive around the back roads and nature spot while doing so. I wish I could have taken more pictures ... but two hands on the wheel and all.

Minime and I continued our homeschooling. At the moment, we are reading the Pumpkin Queen, which is a continuation of the Nightmare Before Christmas. We have decorated for Halloween and acquired a second cat, Asoka. She is a very beautiful and a slightly naughty black beauty. She is fitting in nicely.

We are looking forward to the festive season. Today we went for a nice long walk around town ... okay village ... and discovered a new trail. The sun was shining and the air crisp, but still with a smidgen of warmth left in the solar rays. Fall leaves are at their colorful zenith. I should get you some of those shots soon but for now, I need to draw those curtain I mention earlier and get some shut eye.

Much love, Hivelanders. Fingers crossed; I get on here tomorrow/

Wow! Quite a dramatic setting for your new abode! Lovely blue sky with nighttime show of colours and stars!
Glad you know how to drive! The new house sure keeps you very busy at the moment.
Autumn colours should be wonderful.

How nice to have you back! Moving is such a difficult task, and it sounds as if you moved quite far, to a different climate altogether.

I love the garden downtime in winter. I manage to get caught up on other things, like dreaded paperwork. It's true that there is always something to do if you garden, always, even in the dead of winter such as plan, purchase or start seedlings.

Love those sky photos! More please. I've never seen those lights, and have long wanted to.

Love the poem. Welcome back.

Welcome welcome 😃

I will swing through later to say more! Just stepping off but here’s a little bonus since my vote power is drained at moment. Cheers!

Good to see you.
Oh I remember white rain, well just barely. We had a day, perhaps two of it last year. Just about the right amount for me. Trust me the cold just feels colder as one gets older.
