The question of "favorite" or similarly "best" has always been hard for me to answer.
That being said...

It is hard to answer indeed. Do you choose a technically great photo or one that holds great memories. It's yours to decide!
I had to choose one. I just scrolled through my archive of the year to create a post with a picture for every month and I discovered I had quite a few others that could just be my best one too. Stay tuned for a blog about that ;)
Technically, none of my photos are great! That's why I keep the informative article you linked to me a while back as a permanent tab amongst my massive collection...
