Infront of the colorful Buildings in Zaandam City, Netherlands
Last year during spring, when I was visiting a beautiful city in the province of North Holland, Zaandam city, I had no intention of taking photos of myself. I had a few reasons for not feeling like taking photos; one of them was I was not mentally okay. Today, at least I am capable of writing my own feelings on the blockchain but at that moment, I was in so a vulnerable position that I refused to enjoy beautiful cities in the Netherlands.
Hello Everyone, Happy Sunday. I hope you all are well and having a relaxing weekend.
Zaandam is a popular city among the tourists of the whole world but visiting this city was a break from the current life for me. My life was a mess at that moment; moreover, I was mentally drowned in the sea of sorrow. At that time, my therapies didn't even start properly; I was having a crisis psychological moment so the idea was to go away somewhere colorful and nice to change the atmosphere and mindset. I saw this city for the first time on social media and later after some research, I figured out that the city was not so far away from the place where I live. So, that's how I ended up being in this different and colorful city.
Rainy gloomy dark day didn't bother me at all. I only saw the center of Zaandam where all the colorful Dutch architectural buildings are located. These buildings are colorful, and traditional and showcase the history of Dutch architecture. Zaandam is a city known for its unique Dutch windmills. The city has very interesting spots to explore including windmills. There were thousands of windmills before that produced wood and paper. This city was known for the timber industry once and these wooden colorful buildings represent that era. That green color is a very specific green called "Zaans green."
This is the city part area where municipality offices, hotels, shops, and restaurants are located. The residential area is located a little bit away from the center. If you take 10 10-minute train or bike ride, you will reach the beautiful countryside of Zaandam.
I took the photos unwillingly and I am glad I took these photos. At that moment, in my mind, I had thought to take these photos as a memory and now after almost a year, I am cherishing that moment. Such a strange way human psychology works; really difficult to understand.
