Mesmerizing Waterfall - Rhine Falls (Schloss Laufen and Schlossli Worth Rheinfall), Switzerland | Vacation days in Europe - Part 1

avatar
(Edited)

Vacation days are over, trip days passed so quickly. "I wish I could have lived in those moments forever"; Almost every day I repeat these words to myself. I have written before about my emotions and feelings before going on this trip and I still wonder how I managed this entire trip. Anyway, this is my first Euro trip. I have never been to any other countries in Europe before as a traveler. Well, after fleeing from Ukraine, I was in Poland and now in the Netherlands. Obviously purpose was different but this Switzerland-Italy trip was purely for recreation and relaxation purposes. I have seen a few locations in Poland and the Netherlands. The truth is I often dreamed about exploring European countries but unfortunately, I never got the chance to travel in Europe before.

So, on 12th August I started my preparation for the trip as we were going to Switzerland by road. Packing was stressful because I didn't know what to take with me but I tried to keep it simple. But simple means, 2 handbags and 1 medium size luggage. Anyway, on 13th August around 13.30 am, a van arrived at our place to pick us up. I went on this tour with a large Ukrainian Group of 18 people and it was like a private short trip. Midnight so I didn't waste my energy by staying awake so I was fell asleep within an hour.

GridArt_20230824_004614402.jpg

In the morning around 6.00 a.m., I woke up and found myself in Germany. We were asked to take a break and have coffee if we wanted to. I was sleepy so I didn't pay attention to anything, I walked around a little bit and went back to the van. Then around 9:00 am in the morning, I started watching the street view and surroundings from the van. When we entered Switzerland, it was around 10:30 a.m. and I noticed beautiful mountains, cottages, cows, and greenery. Easily anyone can say that it is Switzerland just by seeing the natural beauty. The beauty of this country is just breathtaking.

Initially, when we arrived in Switzerland, I thought we were heading to the hotel. Well, this is basically a normal idea because, after the whole night's travel, it's important to freshen up and have a nice rest before starting the next destination. My entire idea was proved wrong when I saw we suddenly arrived in a different location where thousands of cars had parked and Sign boards were saying "Rhine Falls".

I was wearing warm clothes (a coat and a hoodie) because it was cold in the Netherlands when we left. When I stepped out of the minibus, I felt like I was in boiling water so without any further thoughts, I decided to change my dress and wore something comfortable. This is the advantage of a private trip and having a minibus, you can change in the car.

Then I started following the group. We started going down following a steep hilly pathway and there were a lot of tourists as well. Some people were with the dogs and after seeing that I was missing my dog Gigi. After 5 minutes I started hearing the mesmerising sound of a powerful waterfall. I was trying to recall that moment when was the last time I have seen a waterfall. I guess 10 years ago maybe or maybe more.

Before going to see the Fall, we needed to find the toilet and needed to buy tickets for the boat. Unfortunately, our guide didn't buy online tickets so we had to buy them on the spot. Seeing the large queue, we decided to look around.

This is the map of Schloss Laufen (Laufen Castle) and one part of Rhine Falls. We were at zone no 1 and our plan was to go down all the way to the waterfall and the river to experience the waterfall closely. So from zone no 1, we wanted to see the castle and wanted to go all the way down to point/zone no 11. Zone no 11 is the best point to see the Rhine Falls.

Schloss Laufen (Laufen Castle)

20230813_122311.jpg20230813_122340.jpg20230813_122429.jpg

Schloss Laufen (Laufen Castle) was full of tourists, I mean I felt like the entire world's people were there. And the queue for going down to see the waterfall was huge. Infront of us at least 200 tourists were waiting.

Laufen Castle is a castle from the medieval period and is located in a very unique place. This home of the Barons of Laufen is located on a rocky mountain and roaring masses of water. The castle is now considered a tourist attraction spot and there is also a nice restaurant and youth hostel for the tourists. source.

20230813_122426.jpg20230813_122553.jpg

We didn't have much time to see the entire castle and also our group wanted to see the waterfall, not the castle. The hostel seemed nice. The massive wall of the castle was made of stone and pavement was also made of stone. Such a great masonry work. I find this water basin so creative and all the people were drinking water from there.

Waterfall can be seen from the castle and though the wall was large, the waterfall can be seen. I obviously took some photos.

Unfortunately, we had to go back to another side of the waterfall because this zone was too crowded. The other side where we went later was called Castle Worth Rhine Falls. Before going there, our guide bought the ticket from the entrance of Castle Worth. So, another location...

Different types of activity packages were available there. 15-minute waterfall boat ride, 45-minute waterfall boat ride, and many more. If you are in a group of 20 people, tickets will be cheaper. We had to pay 19 CHF around 20 Euros per person for 45 minutes boat ride on the Rhine River and to see the waterfall closely.

20230813_130328.jpg

Of course, we had to go down to see the waterfall. To be honest, from far away The Rhine Falls looks mysterious and mesmerizing. I have never seen such a powerful waterfall during summer. And the color of the water was turquoise so it looked magical. The sound of the waterfall was so soothing. This side of the Fall was less crowded compared to the Laufen Castle zone.

20230813_130611.jpg20230813_130557.jpg

Before boat riding, we had some time to walk around. I was tired so I didn't have the energy to explore Castle Worth. I just saw it from far away and decided to sit. I found a spot from where I was able to enjoy the Rhine Falls far away and I decided to do it.

20230813_132904.jpg

I was tired but managed to live in the moment. Actually, my body was tired, not my mind.

Castle Worth (Schloessli Woerth) and Rhine River

20230813_132331.jpg20230813_132329.jpg20230813_123012.jpg

The spot I chose to sit was really a good spot. From there I saw Rhine Falls, Laufen Castle, and Castle Worth all together. It was a beautiful panoramic view.

20230813_132801.jpgIt's very difficult to write about such a powerful waterfall because I am trying to find appropriate words to explain the location. This waterfall was found during the Ice Age, 14000, and 17000 years ago. The information I found while exploring the fall was this waterfall is located in Switzerland but it also shares the German border. This waterfall is situated between Schaffhausen (SH) and Zürich. source

We didn't have enough time to do other activities at Rhine Falls. After a long journey, it was really hectic to climb the mountains or to walk around.

20230813_132107.jpg20230813_131604.jpg20230813_133111.jpg

When I saw that small car, I was like I want it. My legs were hurting so much. We also see a small city tour train. We didn't have time for that otherwise we would have loved to take a city tour. I saw a lot of Bangladeshi and Indian tourists there at Rhine Falls. It was nice to see people from my own culture...

20230813_141516.jpg

20230813_132439.jpg

Finally, the time arrived for the boat ride and we all hopped into the boat so quickly like we would miss the boat.

The water from the fall was crystal clear and turquoise in color. It was so clear that fish could be seen where the river was not deep. If you ever go there, don't miss to see the fishes...

20230813_141737.jpg

20230813_134550.jpg

Crystal clear water...

I have to end this post here... In the next chapter, I will only focus on the waterfall, boat ride, and the history of the Rhine River...

What a piece of great views. It is a very nice tour.
In some parts, the sound of the waterfalls is recorded and used to listen to it when you relax and go to meditate. Even in particular cases, they sold the recording of the sound of the waterfalls and the sound of the sea, for those who meditate.

As always, you have a good eye for capturing and sharing great photos of the trip.
I hope you can enjoy it as much as possible, much encouragement.

So kind of you. In my opinion, I couldn't deliver the true beauty of the waterfall through photographs and couldn't express the feeling that I experienced in front of the waterfall in person. The exquisite view, beautiful panoramic scenario, and the magical waterfall are really hard to describe through writing and photos. I wanted to add more but couldn't so part 2 is coming soon...

The sound of the waterfall is soothing and yes you are right, many people use the sound for meditation...

Thank you for this fantastic walk. Europe in summer is full of tourists. There are people as far as there is nothing to do with. 😂 That's why I like to visit other places at any time other than summer. By the way, the weather is cooler and it is less tiring to walk from one side to the other.

I really liked reading you in this more cheerful side, and I hope that while you were writing it and preparing the photos you had beautiful memories and smiled. 😘♥️🤗

Summer means Europe I guess and I saw thousands of tourists when I was in Italy. To take one photo, I had to wait in queue :D Because I feel like the entire world comes in Europe :D :D hahaha...Preparing and sorting photos keeps me busy and also reminds me of the good things that I experienced on this trip.

Thank you so much for the encouragement, I really hope these memories will help me erasing hard time memories of my life...

It looked great and I love your photos. You must have a lot of stamina to keep going like that. 😁

I didn't have stamina that's why I had to hide my face in the large hat. Later that hat became the main subject of my photos...:D It was really hot though...

In today's post, I complained about the same issue, "the end of summer vacation" and I hope that we will all have a better summer season for the next one. I love the beauty of your photos, especially the building with the red shutters looks great. The view of the castle looks really mesmerizing. Did you feel dizzy when you were looking at this view from there? I probably would have been dizzy if I was there because I get that feeling when I look at such beautiful postcard-like images. By the way, your photo layout is very nice, how do you separate 3 photos on the same line? I would be very happy if you give me feedback about this! You can reach me on Discord! 🎈

It was really hot when I was there. But it was really nice...

Did you feel dizzy when you were looking at this view from there? I probably would have been dizzy if I was there because I get that feeling when I look at such beautiful postcard-like images.

My feeling was like I was living in dreams because I never thought I would be able to go to Switzerland one day. When I was a kid, I often dreamed of going to Switzerland because I saw Switzerland in a movie for the first time and it kept in my mind. I cannot explain the feeling, it's surreal or unreal...

You are right, it looks like a postcard... I will contact you on Discord...

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment...

Switzerland is like paradise. The stunning landscapes and the jaw-dropping views of the mountain ranges leave tourists in awe. The locals are fortunate to live in such a wonderful place, filled with tranquility and breathtaking scenery.

Although I haven't been to Switzerland, I often watch videos on YouTube about the place.

You're lucky because you've finally been there. Although you ran out of time to do other activities at the Rhine Falls, it seems you had a great time there.

Switzerland is like paradise.

Everybody told me that and I cannot deny that because the beauty I have seen there cannot be seen in the photos. Because in person the entire country is more beautiful. Swiss people and the people who live there are actually blessed. I visited one neighborhood and I felt like I wished I could live the rest life there...

You're lucky because you've finally been there. Although you ran out of time to do other activities at the Rhine Falls, it seems you had a great time there.

Truly I am lucky, not many people can get the opportunity to see such paradise in life. Every second felt like I was living in a dream... It's a dreamy paradise...

Changing the environment generally helps to change the mood, in addition to the fact that a good trip leaves the good taste of pleasant memories for the future.

Traveling at night is something I've also done, but I've rarely had a climate change as strong as the one you describe in a single night :)
And you're right, having a private bus is something very practical to store things or change of clothes. Although personally, I prefer a motor home (or caravan) in those cases.

It's not so great that you didn't buy tickets in advance, but from what I've read, it was nice that they had things around to distract your mind a bit while you were lining up.

Thinking of the crowd of tourists, you remind me of a photo that a friend took on the Great Wall of China, which in the images of travel agencies and tourism promotions look so clear... but, in reality, The areas open to the public, tourists, are so full (usually), that they can well produce a certain stress.

I think that description of the waterfall is pretty :) I haven't visited any place like this lately, but it brings back memories of when I was younger and used to visit natural parks with my family or friends.

I'll have to wait for the next installment (personal laughter), to read more about the waterfall. I think that this resource of leaving the viewer or reader in suspense is what they call 'cliffhanger'

A caravan is perfect and good for travel or a private car, you can stop and take a break wherever you want. Our journey was so long but we had adequate breaks and also took a lot of breaks in Germany as well. I don't consider war phase time as traveling because it was a survival moment. Despite my Poland entry, staying and the Netherlands, this is my first trip to another country after 6 long years so it was exciting. At first, it was hard to believe that I was going to travel again because my situation didn't allow me to travel for pleasure. But I did it...

Error and odd means travel, if everything goes smoothly then it's not travel I guess, People often say that... I would say our group members and guide were helpful and supportive. Nobody created any kind of issues so those 7 days were really good...

Just WOW. Hope you had some sleep on the overnight bus ride and how crowded it was. BUT mot surprising as it looks stunningly beautiful and the water colour is incredible.
Looking forward to the next installment and hoping you have a gentle and peaceful weekend :-)

I slept in the car so it helped a little bit and I was drinking a lot of water as well so despite of hectic travel, I was able to move. Besides Switzerland's weather is different, it somehow boosts my energy because I have a desire to see everything and live in the moment. I really hope I will manage to write further journey, 7 days, 2 countries and 10 locations. My content topics are ready up to next year :D
