Kattencafé - The Coffee Cat | Netherlands
This is a long-overdue post. I wanted to write this post sooner, but yes, things didn't go according to plan. Summer arrived, so I take this opportunity to go outside whenever I can. Especially on weekends, I try to go outside of the city to have a good time while enjoying new places. I didn't take any vacation this year yet, still didn't go anywhere outside the Netherlands, and I have no plans for any trip. Maybe on Christmas (December) I will go somewhere. I don't know yet...
Can't remember the exact time, but I guess 2-3 weeks ago on the weekend, while doing groceries, I suddenly decided to go to a unique cafe. I wanted to go to this cafe for a very long time, but back then the cafe was closed, and later I forgot about it.
So, the cafe is called "Kattencafé The Coffee Cat". I am sure you are already guessing what this post is about...
Kattencafé - The Coffee Cat
The cafe is located not far from the place where I live. The cafe is situated near Almere Centrum, so it is not hard to find the location. I was never a cat person. I am a dog person, but after visiting this cafe, I changed my mind. To be honest, cats never liked me, and whenever they saw me, either they gave me a side-eye look or scratched me, so my relationship with cats has never been well. They hated me 🤣... I saw this cafe before from the outside; from the big glass window, I saw beautiful indoor cats. So, I was always curious to know more about the cafe...
Before entering the cafe, I had to wait outside because there was an instruction before entering the cafe. You cannot suddenly open the main door because cats might run away, and you cannot pick up the cats and be kind and gentle... Hmm, I knew I could do that, besides I had no intention to pick up any cats if I don't wanna die or have a death wish...
Trust me, when I entered, my whole perception changed about the cats. The indoor ambience was so playful. Kids were playing with the cats, some cats were waiting for food, and some cats were taking a nap, ignoring all those people. The cafe atmosphere was joyful and playful. I have never seen such a crowded cafe in the Netherlands so far, and this was a local cafe obviously...

At first, I looked for a sitting area from which I could observe everything before approaching any cat. I found a nice corner to sit down near the window and near a black cat... So, my first approach was towards that black cat. Well, he was taking a nap, so he didn't like my friendship, and of course, I couldn't save my hand from his death daggers (nails). So, the plan changed, and I decided to observe the cat first before approaching.
The white cat called Oddy was deaf. His eyes were so beautiful. Kids were playing with him, petting him, and I was just watching. Somehow I didn't know what to do, so I was just watching all the cats...I am not familiar with the cat breed, so I am not gonna mention any cat breed in this post...

Just look at them, how they were unbothered, chilled, and relaxed in a crowded cafe...
I cannot remember how many cats there were, but they had a book of cats with photos and details. It was a photo album with adorable cat photos with details...
Inside the cafe felt like another world, a world that doesn't relate to the outside world...
After a while, when I saw how to pet cats, I started to get comfortable and pet cats gently...
I forgot to mention what I ordered. I ordered a coffee, a juice, and a brownie - strange combo isn't it...
Meet Murphy - A beautiful, soft, shiny-striped cat who was kind enough to give me company when I had a feeling cats were never gonna accept me. He was a very friendly cat, but also a curious cat. He was observing me for a long time, visited me twice, and third time decided to come close to me. He decided to take a short nap near me on my jacket, where I was sitting. He was the only one who came close to me and changed my mindset about cats. At one point, I thought of adopting Murphy, but he was not available for adoption...

Just look at him, isn't he beautiful, adorable, and looks like a king!!!
To be honest, a lot has been happening in my life, so visiting this cafe, meeting a cat like Murphy was really therapeutic for me... Spending time with awesome furry friends is never boring...
Before finishing the post, I am gonna let you enjoy the photographs...
My therapist often told me to find happiness in small things. I guess I forgot to be happy or forgot to smile... I don't think I will find the joy that these cats gave me (well, my dog doesn't count because she is my life)...
Will I adopt a cat in the Future, maybe yes... Even if I can't do, I will visit this cafe again just to spend time with such beautiful cats...

This is beautiful. I am glad you decided to go to the cafe and that they were opened. The coffee cafe does look good in the picture. It's a place to visit, and I am not surprised it was that crowded.
Cats have always been with those side eyes that let's you know they are judging you, lol. It is like they can see deep into one's soul, and I believe that's exactly what Murphy did. He looked and saw how amazing you are, and that's why he became comfortable around you. Well done.
They do for sure, and that's why most of the cats look into my soul and decide to move on...Murphy was a sweet cat, so I am hoping to meet him again. The coffee was nice, but I was so focused on the cats so didn't pay attention to the coffee or the brownie...😀

Me too, I prefer everything else to human company sometimes...
Our daughter used to be really into cats. There is a Cat Café in Seattle as well and we were going to take here there, but then the cat phase ended suddenly after her watching one movie about a dog. So we never ended up taking her to the Cat Café.
May I ask which movie she watched? Maybe "Hachiko" or "A dog's journey"/Purpose?? I am always into dogs, but now I have a soft corner for cats as well... I am sure she still has an attachment to cats, she just doesn't know now...
What a beautiful place! If I set foot there, there's no way on earth they could get me out.
Cats are beings with their own magic, but their privacy should always be respected. If they approach, they should be greeted with affection, but if they don't pay attention to you, you shouldn't touch them, or the cat will get upset.
I'm so glad you were able to enjoy good feline company. I hope you can continue to have more good times like that.

So that's the rule, cats like privacy, which human needs to respect...That makes sense, and that's why the black cat didn't like me because I was hampering his good nap time...

I know you have your gorgeous Gigi, but I think that cats are even better for a person's mental health. Since we got our stray cat, I notice the wife's moods are much more level, and she's gone from being a cat hater to being a crazy, obsessed cat mum!
I'd love to own a cat cafe, full of rescue cats and kittens.
Cats are more independent and do what they want, when they want; their humans have zero control over them so, when Milo comes for a cuddle and jumps into bed with us every night, it's a special thing because he made the choice.
I hope you're coping with all the changes in your life as well as you possibly can, and you and your loved ones are having a wonderful weekend.
By the way, here in our hot climate, I always order both a hot and a cold drink whenever I go to a cafe. It's not a strange thing at all :-)

I heard that too, and most of the cat owners told me how cats help them when they feel low or stressed...Owning a cat cafe would be nice, and also for the community, I think. Here, most of the waiters are volunteers who also take care of the cats...
Hehehe...I am still Asian, I think...🤣...Milo is really a beautiful cat and I love his coat, so silky and shiny...

It is an interesting cafe for sure, not one that I would go into though, as I don't see the point of cats, I don't like them. But like your goodself, some people enjoy being with them and around them and if that is a feel good factor then brilliant!! great shots by the way....even if they are of cates LOL
I can relate, and obviously this cafe idea is very niche and for those who love furbabies/cats...I am a dog person, so even though this cafe is located within walking distance from where I stay, I took a long time before visiting it...
