A story that I will cherish forever - 2 nights in Paris, France

Metropolitan French Capital Paris is known for French romance, art, culture, fashion, music and french cuisine. It's a famous city worldwide, so many people have different opinions about it. History lies in every corner of Paris city. You will see fashionistas on the streets of Paris. Some people see Paris as a honeymoon destination or a romantic city where lovers express their love. Some see Paris city as a life-changing place and go there to find the opportunities. Immigrants and refugees want to make money in Paris while others are into exploration of arts and fashion.

But this glamourous city also has a dark side which is completely hidden and you can't see when you are in Paris. When I learned that Paris built on 6 million people's graveyards and those tunnels, and graveyard still exists, that scared me the most. Obviously, every city has more or less deep dark secrets but don't know why, the secret of Paris kinda stayed in my mind. I guess I had a lot of expectations about Paris because I only knew the glamorous part of Paris.

Paris trip was also planned by my sister, our apartment was booked by her and the travel plan was done by her. The only thing I did was book the transportation. Paris was never one of my must-see places. I mean I liked Paris but never felt an urgency to go to Paris. So when my sister planned our 2-night stay in Paris, I was happy. Basically, my sister's fascination with high-end luxury brands like Dior, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Hermès inspired her to visit Paris. I asked her once what were the reasons for her visit to Paris. She clearly told me that she wanted to visit luxury brand shops and want to see the Louis Vuitton outlet, the Dior museum, and so on. Well, even though our mentality was so different, I thought it was okay to go with her since I hadn't been to Paris before.

Paris - France

Paris trip is not my recent trip, I went there last year, 2024. But it took me a long time to write about it. Anyway, I didn't go to Paris alone, I took my dog (Gigi) with me. The first unfortunate thing that happened during our Paris trip was, I didn't find the direct train to Paris from Amsterdam. I guess it was peak season or I was too late to reserve the ticket. We got the direct train from Paris to AMS but from AMS we had to take the train to Brussel-Zuid and from there to Paris. As I thought to take my dog with me, I talked to @erikah about my plan. I remember Erikah clearly telling me not to take my dog with me because Paris was not a good choice for my dog. She was absolutely right even though I didn't listen to her 🤣 for obvious reasons. I was actually forced to take my dog with me because I couldn't find an appropriate pet-sitter for my dog and my sister also assured me that she would help if something went wrong. Still, I am grateful to Erikah for all the information about Paris.

So, on the scheduled date, we got on the train and everything was fine until we reached Antwerp, Belgium. The train was fully packed and crowded so it was a little bit difficult to find a place for my dog Gigi and I paid 30 euros for the pet ticket. When we reached Antwerp, we heard the announcement saying that the train wouldn't go further and we had to find another way to go to Brussel-Zuid. From Antwerp, there was no direct train to Brussel-Zuid that day and another big problem was we had no idea about the route to reach Brussel. Antwerp station was so crowded and meanwhile, my dog went crazy. She started throwing tantrums and started moving like a snake at the station.

It was so hard to handle her while holding my luggage and my sister was asking around what to do next. Later, we took a metro to Ghent and from Ghent then again train to Sint-Niklaas. I was already tired because my hands started feeling numb because of my dog pulling. Here to mention that my dog is a labrador; even though she doesn't bark at people, she does certain things in public areas that always give me panic attacks. I know it's my fault that I didn't socialize my dog in public spaces but like I mentioned, crowded places were not for her.

Infront of Gare du Nord - Paris Railway station

When we reached Brussel-Zuid, we had already left and our train already left for Paris. We started talking to the conductor of Eurostar to find a solution and nobody was ready to give us seats for the next train even though we faced such a hassle throughout the day. Later, one conductor agreed to let us on the train and finally, we reached Paris, Gare du Nord station. It was quite an experience. To be honest, in my mind, I had already given up on reaching Paris and I would have gone back to AMS if my sister had not been with me. Also, Blind-Spot joined us later...

Outside of the station was a nice, typical French architectural building. I was familiar with French architecture but the exterior of these buildings was so fascinating to me. The perfect cityscape with a feeling of city life I would say. Seeing the outside atmosphere, and diversification of culture and races made me believe that finally I was in Paris.

We took a Taxi to reach our apartment. This story you have to believe on the basis of writing as I don't have photos.

Due to the delay, we had decided to spend our evening in front of the iconic Eiffel Tower. We were tired so we thought after our walk near the Seine and Eiffel Tower, we would have our dinner and come back to the apartment. We took a taxi to go to the Eiffel Tower. The taxi driver was from China and he gave us a lot of information about Paris.

We were expecting to see the sparkling famous light show of the Eiffel Tower but we were not lucky. As it was our first night in Paris, we were hopeful that we gonna see the light show later.

Our day 2 in Paris went so quickly. Our day had started with visiting the Louvre Museum. Then we had our breakfast near the Louvre and directly went to Galeries Lafayette. It's huge and there is nothing you can't find. I said before that my younger sister is into fashion and luxury brands and because of her, I know a little bit about luxury brands. She was not into visiting museums, art galleries, or landmarks, she basically went to Paris to explore the fashion world and luxury brands. I had no other choice except to follow her because this trip was planned by her. Everyone has their own preferences so I let her enjoy her moments in Paris.

Have I been able to see Monalisa? Nope...

The astounding interior of Galeries Lafayette really amazed me, an incredible example of architecture...

20240522_114244.jpg20240521_125957.jpg20240522_114242.jpg

The next destination was Rue de l‘universite, a very popular spot to get good photographs of the Eiffel Tower. Well, it's not a spot, it's a huge street in Paris near the Seine River. So, that was my time to explore the French architecture in Paris. I have seen so many cities so far and witnessed some incredible architectural examples. But every time I feel like I am exploring architecture in a new way whenever I visit somewhere unknown.

Paris is known for the French Renaissance, middle-aged architecture, and the birthplace of Gothic architecture. Elegance and blending artistry with functionality are what make French architecture so popular. People take inspiration from seeing mostly the key features of French architecture but many don't know the function behind each architectural element. If you ask me what truly amazes me about French architecture, I would say Balconies, decorative cast iron railings, and French windows and doors. French windows and doors are very famous in the world now.

Our time in Paris was short but in the short period of time, I have seen a lot.

20240521_122114.jpg20240521_125949.jpg20240521_102829.jpg

I genuinely have zero idea how to explain my experience in Paris...

We spent a long time strolling in Rue de l‘universite and the Seine River's nearby areas. It was nice to be able to see the Eiffel Tower from different areas...

20240521_215400.jpg20240521_214441.jpg20240521_214903.jpg

I know I haven't experienced the flavor of Paris properly or a genuine Parisian life but that was fine by me. I was able to spend time with my sister after 5 years and those moments were precious and I still cherish them.

20240521_122254.jpg20240522_114301.jpg20240521_215002.jpg

Paris is a city of colors so everybody is welcomed in Paris. Whether your interests are in fashion, art, history, or in exploring French cuisine; you will find your place in Paris. I think that's the advantage of the metropolitan city, you will find something according to your taste.

Some people's lifetime dream can be doing romance in front of the Eiffel Tower; some people spend their lifetime saving on buying a Chanel bag in Paris and some want to see Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa.

20240521_120307.jpg20240522_093935.jpg20240521_120930.jpg

As for me, Paris is an experience, a story which I am gonna share over and over again in the future...

Yes, you need a minimum of a full 3 days to explore Paris properly. The city has so much to offer, so I definitely have to visit Paris again.

I would say Paris has both positive and negative reviews, some locations in the city are dirty, Seine River water is polluted but on the bright side, the city has history, culture, and not to mention amazing food. Definitely, you won't regret your time in Paris as a first-timer...

Thanks for stopping by and have a nice day...

I'm so glad you got to spend time with your sister, as it's important and I bet it helped you on so many levels. And you need to go back to Paris one nice day and stay for longer, if possible as there's so much to see there. 😘💚

Like I mentioned in the post, because of you, I was kind of ready for Paris and knew what was waiting for me. From AMS, Paris is not far away so next time, I will visit Paris without Gigi. I hope you are having a lovely day...

Thank you Erikah...

Your story is nice, I appreciate how it's written and that you managed to spend time with your sister. I agree with you, I was in Paris for a couple of days and it's very hard for me to describe how it was. It's a city where you should spend months or years before creating a complete opinion about it, but it's not always possible 🙃

Completely agree with you... I mean how it is possible to describe such a vast metropolitan city just by staying 2-3 days...🤣Impossible... I haven't seen much in Paris so hope to see Paris again in life...

Thanks for your compliment...

Paris can be a dreamy city for many people because there is so much to see. I haven't even seen 10% of Paris, to be honest, but I heard a lot of stories. I met a few people from my community who explained a few important facts about Paris and that's how I got to know Paris a little bit. My experience is quite different than others. It's a pity that I couldn't see exclusive landmarks and monuments in Paris but I kept those desires for the next time...

I hope your dream comes true, one day...

And the GOAT of worldmappin returns. How lovely to see you and what a post! :-)

I'm sad to say I've only been to Paris once and that must 35 years ago. I'd love to go back, even more so after seeing your photos. Galeries Lafayette, never heard of it but looks absolutely awesome. I'd stand staring up at the roof for hours! As for the Eiffel Tower, I've never seen it shot from that location before and it looks even more impressive than the usual tourist views you see all over the web.

Glad you had an amazing time and isn't it lovely to build up such incredible and happy experiences and memories? So important you have a whole memory bank of them you can turn to for some positivity when things are perhaps not going so well.

As always, thanks for sharing and would love to see more of Paris when you're feeling up to it!

Take care and best wishes always.

PS Slight scolding time. You took Gigi and never posted a single picture of her? :-( Come on, we haven't see her on Hive for ages!

the GOAT of worldmappin returns

Aha, I don't think I deserve such a huge title because I never consider myself a traveler. There are amazing travelers on Hive and I am nothing compared to them... 😁

35 years ago?? That's a long time ago, I think many things in Paris changed so far except the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. So, you need to plan for Paris again. Galeries Lafayette basically a shopping mall for high-end brands; for example: in Bangkok, you have Siam Paragon, Siam center, Icon Siam; Galeries Lafayette is a similar concept. I should better call it a store chain instead of a shopping mall. The interior of these stores is just wow...

I only have one regret, I didn't take any photos of Gigi in Paris and I realized it when I started sorting out the photographs I took in Paris. I was so sad that I didn't even take a single photo of her...

I should start taking photos of her again, she is a beautiful lady labrador now and I guess I haven't shared her photos on Hive for a long time. So, it's time to give some updates about her...

Your comment made my day, thanks Nathen...

The ‘City of Light’, as I remember Paris is also called, has some pretty dark sides. However, all of its aspects are quite interesting and very touristy.

Overall, these are nice photos.

I was surprised by how bumpy the trip was. Although I think they were right that the trip (and the stay in Paris) would not be very comfortable for Gigi, it is a shame that they did not get a babysitter to stay with her.

I didn’t know that Gigi could be so restless, but I understand, I have also had dogs that get excited when they see people and want to play or check out everything around them. And it is usually a bit of a hassle to try to contain them or redirect their attention.

The trip, to enjoy the architecture, and change of scenery, I think is worth it, even if you don’t go to see the Mona Lisa 😀👍🎨👨‍🎨🖼️

In the city where I live currently, finding a pet sitter can be challenging, especially for a big dog like Gigi. And I can't trust anyone so easily and am very protective about Gigi so it creates challenges for me. She is a labrador so she is full of energy and she is an over-friendly dog. Also, she loves to walk on a long leash instead of a short leash. A short leash gives her stress and she doesn't like crowded places. So, she is not a dog for crowded locations or public areas...

I wanted to see the mysterious Mona Lisa and the art of Claude Monet but I didn't have time. I only had one full day so it was already a lot stressful for us. But like you mentioned, it was worth it because I discovered some nice locations indeed. Next time...

I hope you are doing okay, thanks for stopping by...

Glad you enjoyed Paris. For me Paris was more fun and interesting than Rome, which was un-expected. I did like the Vatican Museum in Rome, and there was some really cool architecture in Rome as well, but Paris seemed more grand, everything was bigger than in Rome and was a little more like USA which I am used to at this point :)

Beautiful pictures! If you go to Paris again make sure to visit Versailles Palace and gardens around it, it is really beautiful and is only about an hour away from Paris...

Rome and Paris are completely different and also both cities represents their significant history. One is Roman architecture and one is Gothic, Neo-classical architecture. Paris is more modern than Rome, and not to mention, the fashion industry flourished in Paris. I didn't go to the Vatican, I didn't have time. 😞

Most of my trips are often short and I am a very lazy person who gets tired easily after walking 🤣. If I get the chance I will go to Paris again because it's not so far from AMS... Definitely will visit Versailles in the future...

Paris seemed more grand, everything was bigger than in Rome

That's true...

Hello! I visited Paris years ago. I spent hours and hours wandering around the Louvre. As you say, everyone has their own interests; mine are art museums. I can't put into words the excitement I get from enjoying these works of art.
As for the dogs, they are adorable. It's a shame you didn't include a photo of Gigi in Paris!
Sorry for the question, is this the same dog you had in Ukraine?
Thanks for the photos you shared with us!

Outside of the Louvre or the area of the Louvre was just wow for me. I was sitting outside for a long time and admiring the beauty of prism. So far only two legendary artists have stayed in my mind, Claude Monet and Van Gogh. Architecture of the Paris is just beautiful, amazing...

It's a shame you didn't include a photo of Gigi in Paris!

Yes, my wish was to take her in front of the Eiffel Tower and take photos with her but didn't happen.

is this the same dog you had in Ukraine?

Yes... White Labrador...When I left Ukraine, she was 1 year old and now she is almost 4 years old...😁
