Visit Portugal - Wine cellar - Quinta do Encontro

I had the opportunity to visit the beautiful and peaceful place Quinta do Encontro, a winery located in Anadia, in the heart of the Bairrada wine region. I wasn't expecting such a complete and relaxing experience, good food, amazing wine, friendly people and stunning views. If you are planning a visit or love wine tourism, I hope this helps you feel a little closer to it.

Tive a oportunidade de visitar o belo e pacífico lugar Quinta do Encontro, uma vinícola localizada em Anadia, no coração da região vinícola de Bairrada. Eu não esperava uma experiência tão completa e relaxante, boa comida, vinho incrível, pessoas amigáveis ​​​​e vistas deslumbrantes. Se você está a planear uma visita ou adora turismo de vinho, espero que isso ajude você a se sentir um pouco mais próximo.

I had made a reservation for lunch at the winery's restaurant, and I was really looking forward to it. As soon as I entered the restaurant, I was welcomed by the friendly staff who led me to a table next to the window. From there, I had a perfect view of the vineyards outside.

The restaurant was beautifully decorated, simple but elegant, with wooden details and a lot of natural light. I was impressed with the calm and relaxed atmosphere. Even though it was hot outside, the inside was fresh and comfortable.

Eu tinha feito uma reserva para o almoço no restaurante da vinícola e estava realmente ansioso por isso. Assim que entrei no restaurante, fui recebido pela equipe amigável que me levou a uma mesa ao lado da janela. A partir daí, eu tinha uma vista perfeita das vinhas do lado de fora.

O restaurante era lindamente decorado, simples, mas elegante, com detalhes de madeira e muita luz natural. Fiquei impressionado com a atmosfera calma e relaxada. Embora estivesse quente lá fora, o interior era fresco e confortável.

After lunch, one of the staff members asked if I would like to visit the wine cellar. I have always been curious about the process behind winemaking and this was the perfect opportunity.

As we walked down into the Adega, I felt the temperature drop. Inside the cellar, it was cool and fresh, a real contrast to the heat outside. The air was still and smelled slightly of wood and wine it was honestly quite pleasant.

Após o almoço, um dos funcionários perguntou se eu gostaria de visitar a adega. Sempre fiquei curioso sobre o processo por trás da vinificação e essa foi a oportunidade perfeita.

Quando descemos para o Adega, senti a temperatura cair. Dentro da adega, era fresco e fresco, um verdadeiro contraste com o calor lá fora. O ar estava parado e cheirava levemente de madeira e vinho, era honestamente bastante agradável.

The guide gave me a brief but informative explanation of how they produce the wine at Quinta do Encontro. He talked about how the grapes are harvested, how they go through fermentation, and how the wine is aged in barrels. Even though the explanation wasn’t too long, it gave me a real appreciation of the work, time, and patience that goes into every bottle.

We walked past rows of large wooden barrels, known as pipos, where the wine is aged slowly. Each barrel was marked with a date and type of wine. I also saw shelves stacked with wine bottles, neatly arranged and stored under perfect conditions. Some bottles had labels with special editions or older vintages, which made me feel like I was in a treasure room for wine lovers.

O guia me deu uma explicação breve, mas informativa, de como eles produzem o vinho em Quinta do Encontro. Ele falou sobre como as uvas são colhidas, como elas passam pela fermentação e como o vinho é envelhecido em barris. Embora a explicação não tenha sido muito longa, isso me deu uma apreciação real do trabalho, tempo e paciência que entra em cada garrafa.

Passamos por fileiras de grandes barris de madeira, conhecidos como pipos, onde o vinho envelhece lentamente. Cada barril foi marcado com uma data e tipo de vinho. Também vi prateleiras empilhadas com garrafas de vinho, organizadas e armazenadas em condições perfeitas. Algumas garrafas tinham rótulos com edições especiais ou safras mais antigas, o que me fez sentir como se eu estivesse em uma sala de tesouros para os amantes do vinho.

Next, it was time for the wine tasting session, something I had really been looking forward to. We went to a special tasting room, filled with light from the large windows that looked out to the vineyards.

The staff brought out a selection of wines, and explained each one before I tasted it. We started with a sparkling wine, which was light and refreshing, perfect for the summer day. Then came a white wine, which had a fruity aroma and a smooth, fresh taste. After that, I tried two different reds, one younger and one aged in oak.

Em seguida, chegou a hora da sessão de degustação de vinhos, algo que eu realmente estava ansioso. Fomos a uma sala de degustação especial, cheia de luz das grandes janelas que olhavam para as vinhas.

A equipa trouxe uma seleção de vinhos e explicou cada um antes de provar. Começamos com um vinho espumante, que era leve e refrescante, perfeito para o dia de verão. Depois veio um vinho branco, que tinha um aroma frutado e um sabor suave e fresco. Depois disso, tentei dois vermelhos diferentes, um mais jovem e um envelhecido em carvalho.

After the tasting, I took my glass and walked out to the terrace of Quinta do Encontro. The terrace has a wide open view of the vineyards, and with the sun still high in the sky, it looked absolutely stunning.

The green rows of vines stretched out as far as I could see, gently moving in the warm breeze. I sat under a shaded area, sipped my wine, and just enjoyed the peaceful silence of the countryside. There was no noise, no rush just the sound of nature and the occasional bird flying by.

Após a degustação, peguei meu copo e saí para o terraço de Quinta do Encontro. O terraço tem uma ampla vista aberta das vinhas e, com o sol ainda alto no céu, parecia absolutamente deslumbrante.

As fileiras verdes de trepadeiras se estendiam até onde pude ver, movendo-se suavemente na brisa quente. Sentei-me sob uma área sombreada, tomei meu vinho e apenas desfrutei do silêncio pacífico do campo. Não houve barulho, sem pressa, apenas o som da natureza e os pássaros ocasionais voando.

If you are ever in the Bairrada region or near Anadia, I can’t recommend this place enough. Whether you’re a wine lover or just someone looking for a peaceful day in nature, Quinta do Encontro is the ideal place.
