Show Me A Photo Contest Round #229/Pelicans in Ancón

Hello fellow bird lovers. I am very happy to participate in this round #299 with these photographs of Pelicans.

On the Pacific Ocean coast of the town of Ancón, Peru, there is a lot of fishing activity and the birds that usually frequent the pier are pelicans and gulls.

In the company of my son who lives in Ancon for several years, we walked along the pier and the beach. It is winter season and early in the morning, the beach was foggy and the sky was cloudy.

I wanted a picture of both species of birds, but the gulls stand in high places, they are more elusive and it was more difficult to take good pictures with the phone at that distance because they are also smaller in size.

But there were quite a few pelicans on the rocks and I noticed that they have different plumage coloration.

In this picture you can see the pelicans in front of the dock where the fishermen's boats are.

This is my favorite photo because you can see the pelicans on the rocks, I don't know if they are resting or waiting to go fishing.

In some the wings and neck are dark brown, in others the wings are grayish and the neck is white and the beak is yellow. This species, Pelecanus thagus, is the Peruvian pelican.

And in a moment, as if they received an order, all the pelicans that were on the rocks, took flight and headed out to sea.

While on the pier, the figure of a typical Peruvian pelican stares at them, watching them pass by. It is a guardian for the seagulls to approach.
