Trip to the Floating PLTD Museum in Banda Aceh

Friends on TravelFeed! Because the Covid-19 epidemic had no further limits on activity, it was a nice year, and this trip could resume. I hope you enjoy reading about my travels back in 2022!

On my vacation in Banda Aceh in 2022, I had a number of experiences that I want to share with you. I have been to a number of locations there in just over a week. I went to the most well-known tourist destinations. For my journey, which is full of impressions and wonders, the combination of nature tourism and religion tourism is highly relevant. Pamphlets with instructions to tourist spots are readily available on every major route because the capital city is also the core of the city's tourism attractions.

So that you don't get lost, it strives to give hints about how to get there. But, in essence, perhaps we can rely on electronic maps or directions for Google Maps' position. While traveling to tourist attractions, however, directions booklets are also trustworthy and highly beneficial. I want to tell you a story about a location of historical significance in this edition. Without visiting the memorial to the 2004 tsunami, your visit to Jalan Ule Lheue in Banda Aceh won't be complete. Approximately 450 meters separate the tsunami heritage site from the main road.

I was told to go there by a sizable booklet that said PLTD Floating Ship on the main road. Diesel Power Plant Ship, also known as a Floating PLTD Ship. The responsibility of supplying energy at the time fell to this enormous ship, which formerly floated on the open seas. This ship was pulled by the waves onshore during the Tsunami disaster. I find it difficult to imagine how strong the tsunami was at the time.

I left the main route and went onto a village road that was lined with numerous occupied areas. Cars can pass on the road, which appears to be 4 meters wide. I eventually made it to the PLTD Floating Boat tourist attraction, which is not far from the main road. There is a parking lot here that is police-guarded, the cost of parking a car is only IDR 5K. The Floating PLTD ship tour entrance gate is immediately surrounded by the parking area.

Every vehicle, including motorcycles and cars parked in various locations, is orderly parked. There is a shop serving food and beverages in this parking lot as well. There were also several kiosks offering accessories and city-specific trinkets. The vendors here sell a wide variety of mementos and handmade goods. But, I didn't go because I didn't have time to go and shop.

Before entering, I just purchased some snack food. A sizable ship built of iron and painted red is easily visible from the entrance gate. It appeared to be a massive crimson ship anchored on land. A significant monument that describes this tourist destination is located on the left. Globe-and-boat-shaped monument encircled by a huge wave mural.

The magnitude of the tsunami waves that struck the mainland is inferred from this monument. Here, I can also make out the remains of demolished homes. This location was formerly a residential area, as stated in the guide's explanation. Even a few homes were buried as a result of the crash of this ship. I made my way to the right side of the gate yard to board the ship.

There are separate staircases leading up and down. I walked over to the ladder and used it to ascend to the observation tower. I get exhausted as I climb the stairs because this ship appears to be so large and lofty. I went upstairs where it appeared like people were busy. I can see the landscape and vistas surrounding this popular tourist destination from that vantage point. You may view residential buildings that are crowded with people and the gorgeous mountains and skies of the outdoors.

Many are interested in using binoculars in the top tower. To use these big binoculars to see far, insert pennies and look at the scenery. After I got off the ship, I was eager to go into the room. This room is inside the ship. The air inside the ship is quite heated because of how hot the sun is. There is information concerning this ship and the background of the tsunami incident in this room.

Today, this enormous wreckage serves as a memorial dedicated to the tsunami tragedy. I can learn more about the Aceh tsunami by traveling to this sacred and historic location. Shows how powerful the waves can be to bring this enormous ship to shore. The day designated to remember the Aceh Tsunami is typically December 26.
