Is seaside town called Piran a true fairytale ?
If you check Trip advisor and search for top things to look in Slovenia, you will find lake Bled, main city Ljubljana and seaside town of Portoroz. But no town called Piran, which is a must see in my opinion. It is something between Slovenian style little Venice and Trieste, with its beautiful main square called Tartini. And let me introduce it to you in with the following photos and words.
History of Piran
This place was already known in the pre-Roman era. It was mostly populated by fisherman and pirates. It has become part of Roman empire in 178 BC. Around 1000 years later it was part of Republic of Venice, then Austro-Hungarian. After world wars it became part of Yugoslavia and later Slovenia.
Tartini square
One of the most memorable Slovenian squares is named by a composer and violinist Giuseppe Tartini (you can see its statue on the 1st photo). On the square there is also municipality, some shops and occasional events. Square architecture feel is more Austro Hungarian and less Italian.
Things to see
If you visit Piran you need to walk by the coast. To enjoy the fresh air, look at the boats, the birds and the people. Then visit the church or the castle in the hills and enjoy the beautiful sight.
Feel its fairy-tale

You forgot to mention the Postojna Cave 😀 I totally agree with you, Piran is also in my opinion a must see. Foreign tourists coming to Slovenia with travel agencies have an average of three days to visit Slovenia and in that time they see what you mentioned in your post,... See you around!
P.S.: Lep pozdrav na obalo!
Agree fully. Unfortunately I was a tourist too. Tako da lep pozdrav v meglo nazaj😅
Potem pa naj se čimprej razkadi,....☀️
