Mainau excursion

Last time, I showed you a small part of the island, and today I will show you the beautiful gardens in this little paradise.

The gardens are set up in a way that you can enjoy them all year long. There are various sections blooming at different times of the year. If they are not blooming then they are covered in groomed grass of green bushes. We have enjoyed the summer set up, but I'm sure that the spring one was stunning too - just imagine tulips and hyacinths everywhere.

Our first priority was to get some lunch, so we headed towards the restaurants. There were many people and it took us ages to get the food, but it tasted good, and we quickly forgot about the waiting time. Once we were done we walked towards the rose gardens.

Let's have a look!

1.jpg

I thought that there would be a few roses, so I was surprised to see large gardens in front of me. They reminded me of English gardens with their geometric shapes, perfectly groomed grass, beautiful arranged roses bushes, and stoned pathways.

2.jpg

There was a lovely staircase leading us from the platform down to the gardens...

3.jpg

Right next to the staircase was this pretty arrangement which inspired me, and I'm planning to do a similar installation at our new home. Well, 'similar' is a strong word in this case, but we have a garage wall facing the house, and that would make an amazing decoration.

4.jpg

5.jpg

I have this variety in our garden, but it looks nothing like this 😊 I had no idea I could make it grow into a tree! That's going to be a project for next year.

6.jpg

Some corners are very peaceful - I don't know why, but this made me think of Japan...

7.jpg

If there would be some benches in this area I probably wouldn't want to leave...

8.jpg

9.jpg

In this large greenhouse are the palms and other exotic plants that I showed you last time.

10.jpg

Doesn't this make you think of vacation?

11.jpg

12.jpg

That's another plant to add to my new garden...

13.jpg

14.jpg

I have no idea how they make non-native plants grow this much...

15.jpg

We have the rose gardens behind and walked towards arboretum with large old trees...

16.jpg

17.jpg

We got distracted and made a detour to this lovely fountain...

18.jpg

And we couldn't resist to stop for a moment and enjoy the views...

19.jpg

20.jpg

21.jpg

After a while we finally reached the arboretum which is also blooming with tulips in spring. We missed the tulips, but there were plenty of tiny poppies which were also cute.

22.jpg

There are many small paths in the arboretum, but we decided to stay on the main one because it was getting late and we still had a lot to see.

23.jpg

This tower means that we are approaching the vineyards. Wine has been grown on Mainau island for more than 6 centuries. The cultivation of wine was a big part of a religious order that lived on the island from the 13th century. After the dissolution of the order the wine production was stopped and started again less than 30 years ago. Today, there is also an educational wine trail which is fun to do with kids.

24.jpg

25.jpg

There are about 1000 plants at the moment. The vine produced from this plants is only served for representative reasons or during guided tours. It is not possible to purchase a bottle.

26.jpg

Cherry season is in its full spring!

27.jpg

We walked down the hill to get to the last part of the island that we visited. We didn't see all of the island though as it's way too big for half a day.

28.jpg

There were some plants that I really liked...

29.jpg

And some that were really scary - can you see those thorns?

30.jpg

I took this photo to remind myself that I need to purchase seeds from this peony variety 😊

31.jpg

There were so many bees buzzing around...

32.jpg

More roses...

I need to learn how to prune mine to get such results.

33.jpg

34.jpg

These allium flowers were so big - look at that tiny bee...

35.jpg

36.jpg

I have never seen a tree like that. I was looking for a sign with its name, but couldn't find it.

37.jpg

44.jpg

At first I thought that the ticket prices were high, but seeing how much time and effort is put into the installations and perfectly groomed grass I understood the reason.

38.jpg

39.jpg

39a.jpg

There were charming benches fitting this environment perfectly. It looked like a fairy-tale.

39b.jpg

My favourite part were the meadows with wild flowers. The bees were so loud that we almost couldn't hear each other - yeah, I exaggerate a bit, but they were loud 😊

40.jpg

This is something that I want to achieve in a part of my garden. I wouldn't have to think of pollination anymore.

41.jpg

42.jpg

I was amazed by the size of some trees...

43.jpg

Of course, there were some flower installations too...

45.jpg

46.jpg

47.jpg

It was a long day filled with lots of walking, so we picked a bench and relaxed a bit before we left the island.

48.jpg

We were so tired when we got back home, but we both agreed that it was a great day, and we will go there again 😊

See you next time...

The design of the building is quite beautiful and the plants in the garden are also quite beautiful.

Wow that is my kind of place! You talking about getting inspiration reminds me of my brother and his wife and how they go on vacation to gardens to get inspiration for the very big formal garden they are building on their property. They recently went to Butchart Garden's in Canada. I love gardens and arboretums. Thanks for sharing this beautiful place.

Keep up the good work. 👏🎵

Dear beloved Hive creator,

Coding poet Gudasol here to support you sharing your art + life on Hive.

As a fellow creator, I know how hard it is to get the word out there.

I built cXc.world to help creators like us get more support from the blockchain community + beyond.

Share your music on cXc.world, and copy the Markdown for a easy post includes embedded players for Spotify, Youtube, Soundcloud.

That way, you can earn HIVE + stack streams on centralized platforms, as they do still matter.

Not a music creator? No problem. You can still use cXc.world to find + share music you love.

What's next?

Preview the next evolution of cXc, Tetra.earth.

Expose local music from your area!

We're helping grassroots musicians, and you can too by adding their music (no sign up or WAX account required).

Bad news: Saying see you later to Hive! 👋

We didn't get the needed support to continue cXc.world on Hive, as our DHF proposal lacked votes, but [Good News Everyone] cXc.world will add a Markdown copy button, allowing you to easily share your music + music you find on Hive.

For now, we're on WAX, with tools you can use to mint your own Music/Media NFT collection.
