Kissing the Ocean .:. Wednesday Walk Vacation Tour Part 3

After visiting Almería and Málaga on my New Year road trip to Lisbon, it was time to make a third stop on the way there... When you are traveling with a family, you have to pick a stop-point in a democratic way... 😃 Everyone has different wishes, but time is limited, so we had to pick our stops... After the first two cities, we had a debate about where to stop... The route for that specific day was ending in Cadiz, but we had enough time to squeeze in one more stop...

01.jpg

We called out voting public debate with voting... My son was for going to Gibraltar as he wanted to visit "another foreign country"... I was researching Google Maps before the trip and saw that the actual Southernmost point of Continental Europe isn't there, but in a small town Tarifa, so I wanted to go there... And, on the third side, we had my wife, who didn't care where will we go, but the important was to not waste time...

02.jpg

When the United Kingdom step out from the EU, Gibraltar was affected, and they had to implement a physical border with Spain... All that means that, if we went to Gibraltar, we should wait on passport control, later on, find a parking space in a very small place, etc... That all was a big red light for my wife, so we decided to visit Tarifa with 2-1 votes... 😃 It resulted in a lot of complaints on the way there (by my son), but in the end, it stopped after seeing what you will see in this post... 😃

03.jpg

The first stop was to check the local map... We saw the beach on the Atlantic side, it was time to go for a visit to the peninsula and take a photo at the Southernmost point of Continental Europe!

04.jpg

On the way there I took a photo of the Castillo de Santa Catalina, which isn't a castle at all! At least, according to the information that I found... Also, it's not as old as it looks! It is built in 1931!

06.jpg

Okay, it's time to move on our walk... The weather was ugly that day, but luckily, it didn't rain heavily... It was just drizzling rain all the time...

07.jpg

08.jpg

Somewhere in the middle of this "bridge" there is a point where you can find these two signs... On the right, you have the Atlantic ocean... and on the left, you have the Meddditearean sea... Also, there is one curiosity about these two photos (above and under)...

09.jpg

Neither of these two kids is mine! 😂🤣 I know that the girl in the second photo is very convincing as she looks directly into my camera, and not into her mother's camera... 😂 It was too busy at that point and I didn't want to queue to take a photo, so I have other's children in my memory album... 😂

10.jpg

On the Meddditearean seaside, there is a small port and this ship is just reaching it... Also, it looks the sea is much calmer than the ocean, but I suppose that's because of the port and underwater terrain built to "break waves"...

11.jpg

After checking this last map, a big disappointment came! There was a locked gate at the entrance and it was impossible to go inside the "island"... 😔 So, we took some photos of the almost Southernmost point of Continental Europe and went back... 😃

12.jpg

13.jpg

14.jpg

There was the intention of the authorities to explain what you can "see" on the island, but unfortunately, some people thought that it was more important to leave their mark with a bunch of stickers...

15.jpg

16.jpg

There was a sign under these shoes that they represent, but it was old and worn out and not understandable at all... Maybe some world traveler lost them there or went back swimming, or... 😄

17.jpg

Last look at the point where the ocean kisses the sea...

18.jpg

Of course, what would be a Spanish beach without chiringuito! This one has that name, which usually means that the bar is disassembled during the winter, but this one looks like a permanent bar on the beach...

19.jpg

As we didn't have too much time before the dark, we didn't stay for a drink but rather took a last photo of this castle not the castle on our way back to the car...

20.jpg

... and this interesting tuna sculpture made of metal...

Thank you for your valuable time,

~ph~

Yes I agree with you! A walk that forever be cherished. The same situation here in Philippines, gloomy and dark. Sometimes sun is appearing but a sudden shift of weather came.

Such an interesting walk, that Tuna sculpture is so cool, and I would have thought that castle was a lot older than that

Thanks for joining the Wednesday, its always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks

To be honest, I didn't know the story about the "castle" until I sit to write this post and do the research... But, it has sense as it doesn't look like some "medieval style" building at all...
Next stop, Cadiz!
