What is litter materials?

The word litter material is a general use language which simply means materials that are liable to be littered around which we think it's not useful anymore. It could be paper,nylon,shell of maize or rice, wood shave or sawdust. All these then,people normally think they are not useful but right now people are now using it to their own advantage. The like the saw dust and wood shave. Both litter materials are gotten from the sawmill but with different size and shape when you see both of them. The one usually use is the sawdust.

Usefulness of the litter materials in poultry farm.

What people think is waste,I use it to my own advantage in my farm in the such a way that. If I need some,I will just head to the sawmill where I can actually find them in abundance, pack it in some sacks with me. The best practice is to cover the pen floor surface with these litter materials.

It serves lot of purposes in the purposes in the poultry farm. Some of the purposes are:-

• It helps prevent the pen floor surface from being messed up by the birds droppings.

• It prevents the pen from given too many unwarranted smell.

• It makes the pen floor to last longer. Once the pen floor is usually covered with saw dust litter materials, the longevity of the pen floor is guaranteed.

• Another thing is,once the pen floor is messed up to some extent it makes packing of the birds droppings to be easy.
