Tree Leaking Sap in the Summer

Yikes! This tree has been punished by the Sun and is leaking Sap pretty badly.

Certain desert trees respond to injury and excessive heat by crumbling and falling over. Before you plant a tree, make sure it's the right plant for the climate. You can see the heat and damage from a prior storm took its toll on this specimen.

The Sap is really tarry and looks like it has sealed the wound. A tree has xylem and phloem to transport water and nutrients and Sap can be a preventative measure.
