Show Me A Photo Contest Round 271. Feathered Ambush / Emboscada emplumada
Hello Feathered Friends. #SMaP
Something strange happened to me the other day on my way to work. I had barely walked ten meters through Fraternity Park, after getting off public transport, when I was attacked from behind.
Hola amigos de Feathered Friends. #SMaP

Without warning, not one, but three of them rushed at me. All I could do was dodge their blows with my "ancient arts." Although I have good reflexes, I must confess that I could do little against the ferocity of my adversaries. They outnumbered me and, moreover, they were prepared for anything.

I stopped, took a deep breath, and in one swift motion, pulled out my ever-present weapon: my camera. I tried to anticipate their movements and fire, but I couldn't get a clean shot. An elderly woman, laughing at the scene, also got her just deserts and, still in shock, hurried away. Meanwhile, I used the distraction to uncover the reason for so much violence.

I soon discovered the cause of that unexpected commotion. Near my feet, the tiny creature responsible for all the noise was hopping about. The offense had been passing too close to the small bush that served as its refuge after it had prematurely fallen from the nest.

I picked up the little one and placed him on a tree trunk, away from the ground and near some branches, so he could climb back up when he caught his breath. I took the opportunity to take some pictures, like the one I'm showing you today. Then I continued on my way to work, still smiling about what had happened.

This little bird has surprised me twice this month of flowers. Two days earlier, in the park near my house, I saw another small one in similar circumstances, although better protected and farther from the ground.

There I was able to photograph his parents frantically feeding him, as if they were trying to give him the necessary strength to face those first moments of life, so fragile and uncertain.

It's a real race these little feathered creatures wage, venturing far too soon into the unknown. Some never reach their destination. Others, by pure chance, find in the friendly hand of a birdwatcher or a sensitive passerby that safe little bridge to life.
Algunos no consiguen llegar a destino.

How beautiful! 😍... And what a great story!... Here in Venezuela we have similar blackbirds and they also fiercely defend their territory and chicks!... But they are enchanting!!!!

Hola buenas tardes amigo.

Nice photos and story.
These photos are wonderful; that moment when the little one was being fed turned out great.
Thanks, friend. That sequence includes other photos where the father comes and takes one of the larvae from the mother to carry it back to the nest, where other hatchlings are still waiting.

My only regret is that it was so late and the light wasn't good. This Canon 7D doesn't perform well in the shadows; the photos come out with some noise.
That's really interesting—a truly unique moment captured on camera, haha. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Oh my god, so lucky it was you to help the little one. The parents are so protective, I am not surprised about their attack.
I got only shouts if happened to be too close and once the crow dropped a pine cone near me. 🙂
The photos are brilliant!
