Greetings, everyone in HiveGhana community. Welcome to my blog. This evening when I returned from school. I was contemplating of what to publish on Hive Blockchain technology.

Then, this topic stroke to mine, and I decided to feature it on my own.
Nigeria is one of the multilingual nations. Language is a powerful tool and it is an English, the official language in Nigeria and other part of the country. Language is the major cause of multilingualism in a country.
Before I continue, what is multilingualism? Multilingualism refers to a situation where people can speak more than two languages at the level of proficiency or efficiency.
We shall look at the merits and demerit of multilingualism in Nigeria.

The majority of Nigerian's have enjoyed the multilingual situation in our nation and some are against it. Let's look into the pros and cons of this situation.
Advantages:
- Multilingualism has paved ways for people to enhance their relationship.
- It facilitates interpersonal relationships among the people.
- It gives us understanding of another person's language.
- It provides opportunities to the people to be able to share.
- It establishes close relation and learning in our society.
Disadvantages:
We have all assumed that our dialect is inferior to another, that's the reason we have decided to dump our language and go for another, thinking it is superior. All languages are superior in nature, and they are unique in nature. Let's see what will happen if we dump our language. This is the reason we, linguists are fighting against multilingualism.
- It leads to the death of language.
- It leads to language endangerment, this is the extent of leaving a language under threat of extinction or moribund.
- It decreases the efficiency and proficiency of another language.
This is our work as linguists. Making plans to see how we can bring an orthography of people's language that are getting moribund or death to come alive. We heard of one language in cross that is death, professional linguist (my lecturer who is vested with the knowledge) are working towards the language.
Major multilingual problems in Nigeria:
Politics and ethnics:
In politics, we have several constitutions and changes of government in our nation and this brought about multilingualism in Nigeria. Different groups of people into government parastatal, speaking different language's exception to English, which is an official language.
Education:
The Majority of teachers at different levels do not implement the study of our mother tongue in the education system.
Religion
Marriage.
migration and others but to mention a few.
We should try to reduce the rate of multilingual problems in Nigeria.

We have same language problems in Ghana where I can count many languages due to many ethnic groups. I believe it's one the barriers to our progress as a nation. I believe a nation developes faster with one official language
Yes, a nation develops faster with one official language. This is the issue we've been trying to address as Linguists in our department and other department of Linguistics in Nigeria and other countries.
Imagine in Ghana having this same issue. Language barrier everywhere. There is a way out, if we come together and say no, to multilingualism, I think it will stop this miscarriages in Nigeria and other countries. More of your responses.

this is very serious and complicated topic and very difficult to address such problem in a big country like Nigeria.
I know it is complicated and difficult to address this problem in Nigeria. If Government will implement this in Government constitution, it won't be a big problem.
Like they say everything with an advantage has its disadvantages.
