Black and White Randoms
Following on from yesterday's post where I explored the pioneering work of photo artist Gregory Crewdson, it got me thinking about a former time where I couldn't even bare to think about leaving the house without my trusty digital SLR. It served as a kind of weapon that if I left at home would make me feel unarmed and vulnerable.
So I had a look back at the plethora of photos I have taken over the years and I am going to share a few in this post. The photos are presented in no real context other than the context of randomness. But there can be a lot of value sometimes in the random nature of things.
Again with the photos I've included with this post there's no real theme that emerges either other than black and white, that's the only real theme that links the pictures.
While still quite new to Hive I see a lot of photography on this amazing site. Some of the photographic work is beyond professional standard and awe inspiring. Some of the photos I have come across are quite simply stunning, whether that is due to the subject, the lighting or composition they really are incredibly impressive.
I will put in my disclaimer now and warn you that my photos don't claim to be anywhere near the standard I just mentioned, but I hope some of you will enjoy them nonetheless.
All I simply offer is a random monochrome peak into my world, without any themed context.
Mainly the past but some present contained within.
I could not have done it without friends.
Lying, musing, planning.
University studio corridors of student hope and academic despair.
Fuzzy thinking and industrial education.
Plot your escape, anyway you can.
Can you build me a house just like this?
Gin and tonics, melancholics.
Concrete trees
Hit the road, move on but remember to sometimes look back.
Where did they all go?
No one will ever be able to convince me that there isn't something special about black and white photography. Black and white photographs seem to always help focus the mind on the subject more, and alleviates the visual noise you get from colour. I find this helps to create more mood and atmosphere.
These pictures were taken using a Canon digital SLR. I like digital a lot but give me a 35mm black and white film and an analogue SLR and things get even more special.
Peace!
