Two portraits

Photography is a hobby I love. But it's not just about the process itself ‒ it's about what I'd call the "side effects."

Side effects from medication are usually undesirable. But for other activities, they can be at least interesting. This hobby leads me to places (and people) I would never otherwise encounter. Or, more precisely, places I'd have no reason to visit. The environments where I took these photos aren't just found on some random street or in a city park (though I've stumbled upon interesting scenes even in parks before 😊)

Two portraits. Honestly, it doesn't matter where, when, or with whom these photos were taken. That's not worth discussing. Once, I compared different types of photos to epic or lyrical poems ‒ some more descriptive, others more emotional. Someone once suggested that an artist shouldn't interpret their own work, but leave that to the viewers. Fine, so I've just deleted two paragraphs from my article and will let you draw your own conclusions.

Still, I can't help but make a comment. I love the first photo. Seemingly, nothing is happening. But that's exactly what stimulates the viewer's imagination. Is the model sleeping peacefully, or is something dramatic about to unfold? Or is there something intense happening in the background ‒ or that has already happened? Is this reality or maybe a Live Action Role Play (LARP) or Cosplay? Or perhaps even some kind of bondage game?

With the second photo, I realize that viewers might interpret it completely differently than I do. For an outside observer, it might be "just" a girl with extravagant makeup, whereas I know all the circumstances of its creation, giving me a different perspective and evoking different emotions.

Either way, the photos are on the table ‒ enjoy them. 😊
