I was walking down the street in town and there was this big concrete planter. So I thought, hey, flowers, take a picture, maybe it'll come in handy.

I don't know the name of this particular flower, but that's not important. I didn't notice it from a naturalistic point of view, but from an artistic one. Actually, it reminds me a bit of an octopus or a crab turned upside down.

Nevím jak se jmenuje zrovna tahle kytka, ale to není důležité. Nezaujala mě z pohledu přírodovědeckého, ale výtvarného. Vlastně mi připomíná trochu chobotnici nebo kraba otočeného na záda.

Hned vedle zase byla takováhle koule obsypaná drobnými lila kvítky.

When I took the picture, a butterfly was sitting on the flower. Great, I thought, this will brighten things up. But the butterfly thought otherwise. It folded its wings so you couldn't see the pattern on them, just the dark undersides.

On the other hand, I noticed that the ends of its antennae were "glowing," like the position lights on an airplane.

Když jsem fotil, usedl na květinu motýl. Super, říkám si, ten mi to pěkně oživí. Ale motýl byl jiného názoru. Složil křídla tak, že nebyla vidět jejich kresba, ale jen temné spodní strany.

After a while I got my well-deserved reward. At least for a few seconds the butterfly opened its wings and let me take at least one picture with it.

Po chvíli jsem se přece jenom dočkal zasloužené odměny. Motýl aspoň ná pár sekund svoje křídla rozevřel a nechal mě s nimi udělat aspoň jednu fotku.
