Looking down at the city from above...

The houses look like toy building blocks, cars like little beetles, and people are completely indistinguishable.

Some photos have clear landmarks that make it easy to identify the city. But if I cropped out those landmarks and left just the blocks of buildings, would it be just as easy?

Maybe yes, maybe no. For someone who was born there and lived part of their life there, or for a frequent visitor who's walked those streets plenty of times, it's a no-brainer. But is it just as easy for a viewer from, say, the other side of the world?

They say some cities have soul.

Vienna definitely has one.

Z výšky shlížím dolů na město...

Domy jsou jako dětská stavebnice, auta jako broučci, lidé nejsou vůbec k rozeznání.

Na některých fotkách jsou jasné dominanty, podle kterých je možné toto město snadno identifikovat. Ale kdybych tyto dominanty oříznul a nechal jen bloky domů, bylo by to stejně snadné?

Možná ano, možná ne. Pro člověka, co se tam narodil a prožil kus života, nebo pro častého návštěvníka, který se v těchto ulicích něco nachodil, je to banalita. Ale je to stejně snadné i pro diváka třeba z opačného konce světa?

Říká se, že některá města mají duši.

Vídeň ji má zcela určitě.
