Everyone knows flamingos. They are unmistakable birds with a spectacular appearance. And that's why they're so popular in zoos.
When I was writing this article, I learned a few interesting facts. Firstly, this seemingly massive bird weighs on average around 3 kilograms, about the weight of a domestic duck.
And the second thing is that the feathers of the flamingo are not actually pink, but white. The pink colour comes from some kind of algae that lives in its feathers and gives it that colour.

Když jsem psal článek, dozvěděl jsem se několik zajímavostí. Jednak že tento na první pohled mohutný pták váží v průměru kolem 3 kilogramů, takže asi jako domácí kachna.
A druhá věc je, že peří plameňáka není ve skutečnosti růžové, ale bílé. Růžovou barvu mu dodávají jakési řasy, které v jeho peří žijí a dodávají mu tu barvu.

A few months ago I photographed some flamingos in the former Buenos Aires zoo but these had a different color, they were more orange tones.
