I had the feeling recently that there were fewer of these dragonflies and damselflies flying this year than other years. But when I went to the water this weekend, there were quite a few flying around.

The advantage of photographing dragonflies is that they return to their place. If you see a dragonfly sitting somewhere and it flies away, chances are it will come back after a while.

According to inaturalist.org, the first photo should show a emperor dragonfly, and the next photos should show a red dragonfly. The subtle and graceful blue line in the last photo is a white-legged damselfly.
