In reality, dragonflies are fascinating predators and highly aggressive hunters. Their entire body is designed for one purpose: to spot prey (usually smaller flying insects) during a swift flight, catch up to it using their exceptional maneuverability, and then snatch it with their strong and powerful mouthparts to consume it.
On the other hand, these predators play a crucial role in nature by controlling insect populations. Nature never acts without a reason.
Dragonflies are arguably the best flyers in the insect kingdom; they can fly in all directions, pivot in place, and even fly backward. They have a pleasant trait for photographers: they maintain their territory, and if they fly away from their perch, they quickly return. Therefore, when photographing dragonflies, it's essential to stay calm and patient.

Ve skutečnosti jsou vážky fascinující predátoři a vysoce agresivní dravci. Celé jejich tělo je zkonstruované za jediným účelem: v prudkém letu zaznamenat kořist (většinou drobnější létající hmyz), za pomoci dokonalých manévrovacích schopností ho dostihnout a silným a výkonným ústním aparátem ho drapsnout a sežrat.
Na druhou stranu, tito predátoři mají v přírodě velmi důležitou úlohu jako kontrola hmyzí populace. Příroda nic nedělá jen tak bez důvodu.
Vážky jsou asi nejlepší letci v hmyzí říši: dokážou létat všemi směry, otáčet se na místě a dokonce i couvat. Pro fotografy mají jednu příjemnou vlastnost: drží si své teritorium, a pokud ze svého stanoviště odletí, brzy se na něj zase vrátí. Takže při focení vážek je dobré zachovat klid a trpělivost.
