Surfing in winter (10 shots).
And that Atlantic Ocean water is colder than cold :)

Doctor's orders are that I must walk as much as I can to clear up the calcified arteries that I am starting to suffer from, and so, we took a long stroll on the beach. As usual there were people out there in the sea and I managed to get some of the surfers on camera. We can do so much when we are younger, and at my age I cannot even attempt to take a board and to try and surf as I can bet you that I will either drown or break some bones that I don't even know that I have.
It must be an exhilarating experience to be out there riding on the waves, and we even have some female surfers out there, as you can see in the first picture. I think it's also very healthy as all the muscles are exercised, to keep a balance on the board that is tossed about by the power of the wild Atlantic Ocean. Fortunately, this section of the sea is in a bay that tames the wild waves from coming in from the ocean. All really picturesque, and we love the smell of the salty ocean air.
Did I say it helps with balancing?
I still cannot figure out what that pipe below the board's functions are.
Someone hit the water, and I don't know if it is the guy in the picture above, as I just walked along clicking away with my camera.
These guys have a very stressful time to keep the peace on the sea, but they are very brave as they cruise along to help whoever gets into trouble.
There in the background is the guy with the pipe below the board again. He obviously doesn't need paddles, because that pipe is driving the board.
A great action shot here below.
And finally, just another surfer in action.
Oh, to be young again, as in my young days there were no women surfers. I am sure that these two ladies are going to have a nice time out there on the waves.
Woman power has come a long way since the 50's and I think it is a good thing, as the ladies bring a balance, not only in life, but also in politics. Some might not agree with me, but yeah as they say in life, love and charity belongs to all of us. We have had one of the warmest winters in a long time and a big worry is that we did not have our full quota of winter rainfall. The fruit trees are already blossoming, and I will soon show you some early flowers, as the trees think that they are already in spring.
Such is life.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

Until next time, cheers!
I'm with you! No way would I take a chance surfing. It is fun to see others having a great time, though.
Thank you milady, and yeah, the years of me trying something like that is long gone :)

Amazing shots! Surfing in winter takes real skill and determination. The waves look incredible, and each photo captures the excitement of the moment
Thank you, and surfing in any season takes real skill, but it can be done as shown in the post. I am glad that you had a look and understand the feelings that I tried to convey.

And here, the Mediterranean Sea is warmer than warm 😂
We don't remember when it was so warm; well, it has been two weeks since we could not go to the beach but it was already so warm back then, and now even more, as we see in the sea water temperatures shown in the weather forecast, 29 degrees Celsius.
There are no huge waves here to see a lot of surfers, but it is so cool to see them from your photos. Balance - so important in life, in all segments of it.
I hope the long walks will help you combat the health issue you have been suffering from. 🙂👋
Oh yes, we read about the heat waves in Europe, and my daughter in the UK is also suffering with the heat. Over here in Africa we are used to the heat that can top out at highs of 30-40C.
Those are the Atlantic Ocean waves, and a pity that you don't have high waves. Glad that you liked the photos for your agreement that balance is essential in life.
Not too fast walks, as when I walk fast, then I get leg cramps in bed at night. But I survive :)

Yes, the heatwave indeed hit the whole Europe.
Here we have also those temperatures, between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius, one day it was 41. (and 29° is for the sea 🌡🌊)
Take care, and slow walks then ;)
Well in that case you know what the weather is in Africa :)
Slow walks indeed and you also take care in that heat.

Let me be honest here... When I saw the title and the first sentence, I thought YOU were the guy on the board in the first photo! 😃 I got your "personal" view about the cold water being too personal, so much that I saw you on the board... 😂
Anyways, I had the same question as you about those boards with the pipe below, when I saw them for the first time... Obviously, they have some kind of small engine that does the work... But I could be wrong...
Btw, great action photos!

Let me also be honest, and tell you that if it was me on that board, then at my age, they will have to book a hospital ward for me :)
The good news is that I found the reason for the pipe below the board, and you are right as they are called "Motor Driven Surfer Boards" An electric motor is fitted inside at the bottom of the pipe. They are also called jet boards, and electric surfboards.
Thank you for the compliments.
