Snow and sun rays!

Our first sign of snow on the high mountain peaks and lovely sun rays on another mountain. Plus, a look at the sea.
207.JPG

In South Africa, snow is a rare sight for us, as we don't get snow every winter. Not that we have much down here, but for some reason the areas inland and on the Highveld are covered in snow this year.

A guy came up to me to ask where the bird was that I was taking a photo of?
I told him that I wasn't taking a photo of a bird, as I was taking photos of the snow.

So, I pointed at the snow on the mountain peaks and a crowd started to gather around me as the guy shouted, "SNOW"!
Although I have seen it many times, it still amazes me that people never seem to look up at the mountains and the sky when they are out there. All of them wrapped up in heavy coats and hats like eskimos against the cold, as they hurry around from place to place, and they don't see the snow.
To make matters worse, a soft rain was also falling, but that never stopped me from taking snow shots.

So, you want to know if it was cold? Check this tucked up squirrel.

Time now for mother nature's spotlights. On our way here to the wine farm, I stopped the car and got out to show you the lovely scenes below.

The sun rays were spot lighting the mountain.

Then the rays started moving up the mountain.

That cloud below looked like a big bird landing on the mountain and you can just see where I got the sunray pictures.

And finally, just two more snow pictures below.

Wonderful to be out on a cold day like this, as there is so much to see.
We also went down to the ocean to show you what the cold sea looked like.

Always something to see here and come rain, hail or sunshine, we are out there to see the sights. Somehow it makes the adrenaline to flow, and I am forever on a high when I see something beautiful. Regarding my posting on hive, I enjoy sharing my passion for nature in my posts and there is such a variety that I never have a blank about what to post. In fact, the beauty that I see always spurs me on to share the views with all here.
They say that hive should be fun, and I agree, as hive is definitely not all about the rewards. Been here now for 6 years and I hope that all of the newbies will also stick it out. All that it takes is compassion and dedication. And of course, also kindness in the engagements with everyone else.

I hope that you have enjoyed the pictures.

And That's All Friends.

Nature's spot lights and I liked how it lighted up the colors on the mountain.
Thank you!

Snow adds so much beauty to the otherwise huge gray rocks we call mountains.

Beautiful images, Zac, I love the snowy mountains and the sun rays / patches of light on the landscape, but please tell the little freezing Squirrel that I love it most 😄

By the way, what's the temperature down there? Here we have hot 33C 😅 !LOLZ

Indeed Hannes, so great to see how the snow changes those ragged peaks into fairy tales.

You can see that the bulk of the post consists of those rays as it was a great pleasure to see how it exposed the beauty by lighting up the patches.
Shame, the squirrel had tucked its feet in under its body and it was the best way for me to show the cold.

10C at noon and 1C tomorrow morning at 3am. Not nice to get out of bed and this morning I forced myself to stay under the blankets 😉 !LOLZ

Cheers and thanks.

Good morning Zac,

it's always a pleasure to see such images, and the squirrel looks really lovely 🤗
It's half past six in the morning and we already have 19C - this is going to be another hot day with temperatures over 30C. When it's cold the place under the blanket is the best place in the morning 😉

Wishing you a not so cold day but many beautiful views of snowy mountains, my friend 😊

Good evening Hannes,

The last two days I am up very early as for some reason I have picked up a cold. Coughing and sneezing like an old car that is difficult to start 😉 !LOLZ
Walking around in the cold that the snow creates and then taking hot showers is never a good idea.
Especially if one doesn't get into bed straight after the hot shower, but rather walking around outside before bed.

Wow! Another very hot day, it seems. And if you are not careful, you might have African temperatures there soon 😛

The snow is gone now, as we have had a full day of weak sunshine.
Such is life.

Cheers and thanks.

Hi Zac,

I thought I'd have some time this morning at work to reply, but there wasn't even a minute, but now it's weekend and I'm freeeee 😁

I literally can hear you starting the engine 🤣 !LOLZ

I love hot showers after walking in the snow, but I think we here in the north are more used to it, just like a cold shower isn't the best for me on hot days like today 😉

This weekend is going to be sunny, but the weatherman says it will rain the whole next week - I'll be in the office anyway, so I don't really mind.

I'm not sure what to do during the weekend, but I want to take some photos somewhere ... will decide later when it's cooler.

Hope your cold is better now and you can enjoy a lovely weekend, my friend 😊🌞

Glad that you now have a free weekend Hannes and I think that you meant that I could hear you starting your engine 🤣 !LOLZ

The doctor reckons that hot showers and then out in the cold do not result in getting a cold. He reckons that it's a virus that I picked up somewhere. Could be from a dirty coffee cup, or even from a dirty table.
My wife has now also got the cold and we bark at each other with sneezes 😛

Thankfully our rain has stopped and I am glad that at least your weekend will be sunny. They say that Europe is in heatwave that beats anything that they have had in history. Last time that I looked, Greece was at 49C 😮

I am sure that you will get great photos wherever you go and just make sure that you keep cool 😉

The cold will still last for a few days, but it will not stop us from going out as usual 😊

Cheers and thanks.

Keeping cool these days in Europe isn't easy, my friend, but I remember hotter Summers 🥵 !LOLZ

I hope the cold will not last long, so that you two are healthy out soon again 🙏

I have been to the Dolomites again - cloudless morning, but luckily a few clouds came in the afternoon 😁

Wishing you all the best and a wonderful Sunday, my friend ☺️ 🌞

I read that a guy was painting road lines and he fell over and died from heatstroke. I think that it was in Rome somewhere 😥

Yeah, thank you Hannes, the colds are slowly starting to go away, so we are happy 🤞 !LOLZ

And to think that only a few lines of cloud could lend such a fabulous character to an image. Really beautiful and Marian agrees 😊

Sunday is done my friend and we wish you a great start to the new week.

Cheers and thanks.

Hi Zac,

I know it's sad when people die, but some people just can't stand the heat, some people behave wrong in the heat, and the same applies to the cold. Of course, many people have no chance to escape from the heat, but in the past few years the Summer heat has apparently become a big problem, although in my opinion the temperatures haven't increased significantly ... I just don't believe the media.

Thanks that you like the image - I would have loved if there had been more clouds, but although all around there were tons of clouds, the 3 big rocks didn't have more than these.

Wishing you also a wonderful new week 🌞

Hi Hannes,

Oh yes, many people have weaker systems and heatstroke remains to be a killer. The cause is normally dehydration, but there can be other causes as well. Some people can live in countries with severe heat and others would die if they had to live there. I take the media stories with a 50/50 mindset. 50% truth and 50% FUD 😉 !LOLZ

In my mind, clouds and mountains complement each other as this fabulous image of yours clearly shows. The great thing about is that the views forever change, depending on the cloud formations.
And of course, the sun is also a major actor in the pictures 😊

Blessings and thanks.

Hi Zac,

I'm no tsure if I have enough time for all replies ... 😅 !LOLZ

Of course you are right - some people have weaker systems, but some people are just stupid too.
Most times I don't even believe 50% of what the media say - even when they show videos I often don't believe it.

It was a cloudless day, but in the afternoon some clouds arrived and later the west was covered by dark clouds. Just before sunset there was a little gap that let the sun shine through, and although it was quite dark already, I took that shot. Thanks that you like the image 😀

I wonder what I will feel like if I see a snow for the first time
I'm surely going to feel good...
We don't see snows here in my country

I remember the first time when I saw snow. We had moved from the farm far up north to the big city and I was still a child. So in my happiness to play in the snow, I made snowballs and I got a hiding, as I broke a window by throwing a snowball at it !LOL

We also never saw snow up north and it was an exciting experience to see it for the first time.

Lighting across the sky with heavy gray skies always a highlight when the sun rays fall below. Lovely outing once wrapped and ready to face the cooler conditions.

Have a splendid day, snow everywhere the country is celebrating throughout, except those who don't have the right protection in this weather.

Totally agreed as it was lovely show. Sadly I forgot my fur hat at home, but now I have dug it out !LOL

Yes, every few minutes snow photos are sent to our phone, but sadly nothing from up the far north yet.
People in the township shacks are struggling severely in the cold and also all of the flood pools in their areas.

We had plenty of snow today and the only reason we get it is we are at a higher altitude above sea level. Bloody freezing up here but should be back to normal by Wednesday. This happens roughly every 10 years or so up here which you would know all about having lived just up the road.

Yep! They reckon that Monday was the coldest day of the year and by Thursday things will start thawing out. We certainly know all about it and now down here, it is just as bad, plus the rain, doesn't make things any better. Up there it is summer rainfall and down here it's winter rainfall. Took us a while to get used to it.

There is also another mountain that has a favorite spot for the glider guys, as they can drive all of the way up to the top on a mountain pass. It looks out over the ocean, and I have posted them taking off before, so maybe I must go there again.
Glad that you liked it.
