Now what was this? Part 1.

A strange rock arrangement, and maybe they will plant some succulents in it for a flower show?

I will show you in Part 2 tomorrow what the purpose and use is of this wired-up rock formation.

But for now, let's have a look at how these river rocks are gathered. We took a stroll in our local park, and much was going on all around us over there. Definitely not a normal stroll as usually there is silence, and one can sit in peace to meditate near the mountains. But not on this day, as the loud barks of a frontend loading machine pierced the air. So, I went closer to see what was going on and a few surprises were waiting for me. Now I don't want to give much away at this stage, as all that I can say is that I was very impressed by this innovating plan to avoid the dramas of nature.

Here is the loud machine that I was talking about, parked on the riverbank.

I have always wondered why that heap of river rocks was piled up on the bank of the river.

And here was the answer, as some laborers were passing the rocks across the river to load it into the scoop of the machine. They shunted the rocks across by hand.

Trousers rolled up, bare feet, no helmets, and I only hoped that one of them wouldn't miss an oncoming rock. But no, as they are very experienced.

The machine then ran back and forth when its scoop was full, to drop the rocks in a restricted area.

Now look at that, as several wired up casings of rocks could be seen in the restricted area.

I hope that I have piqued your interest about the purpose of the wired-up rock formations, and if you want to venture an idea about what you think it is, then be so kind as to tell me in the comments below.

In any case, my plan is to show you the purpose tomorrow in Part 2, and then we will see if your reply was correct. It was a first time for me to see this, and I was very impressed, as we have the highest number of unemployed persons in the world. So good to see that the council has physical jobs to try and make a dent in the unemployment situation. One can place a conveyor belt across the river, as then it would only take two or three employees to load the rocks on to the conveyor belt, and the conveyor belt will then simply drop the rocks in the frontend scoop of the machine. But I like them doing it this way, as more people with an income can look after their families.
Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

I assume this is a way of reinforcing the slope of a ravine or water body - such a structure keeps the ground from crumbling. I have seen it many times in my area at parks reconstruction.

Well done, and yes, you definitely know what you are talking about, as it is indeed meant to prevent further damages due to the erosion of the riverbanks, as you will see in Part 2.

I guess when labour is cheap people can be a better choice than more machines. Most people want to work anyway.

We got a load of big stones for modelling our garden and we had to shift them by hand. I know how hard it is :)

(Edited)

That's just the thing as labour is no longer cheap over here, as the wages are regulated by the government, and one would get into big trouble for paying lower than the set minimum wage. But these guys are experts, and they know what they do.

Yep! the big river stones are heavy, as we have also carried a lot of them. Sore arms and shoulders afterwards :)
