Hey! That is a doggy bowl

This thirsty guy on the water bowl is a Red-winged Starling (Onychognathus nabouroup), and I will also show you a lovely little squirrel baby. It has been a hectic week, and so nice to sit down with a mug of coffee to discuss some of the events that occurred during the week. Although it looks like a sunny day it is a winter day with a weak sun and some sniping cold winds.

I am up and about again, even though my ankle has not fully recovered yet, but I am one of those persons that do what they have to do regardless of the circumstances. Imagine sleeping under cardboard sheets in the street at night during the cold. We have about 100+ street people here in our area and we are in the negotiating stage for Papillon to do something about it.
Any case, come and have a look at what I have to share.

I told you he ignored me and he progressed to slake his thirst.

Then the female arrived.

At least she gave me a look, as if to say: Can I also have a drink please? I promise that I will not make a mess.

What could I say? And she proceeded to have a drink.

And now let me show you the squirrels.

I saw this squirrel running through with food in its mouth.

Here below is the reason why, as the runner was obviously being chased, for a piece of food, by her baby.

Looked like a real cheeky little one, but so cute in its winter coat. The mother was on the other side of this low fence.

We have seen many adult birds and other animals, either running away, or even chasing their babies away from food, and there is a reason for it. The parents want their offspring to learn how to feed themselves in the wild. One would think that the little ones might be in danger of eating something poisonous, but no we have never seen one of them eating something that they shouldn't have.

We call it animal instinct as they know what and what not to eat. This is the big difference between nature and its wildlife, and us as humans. Just imagine that you have a little child that can walk and then you chase the little child outside to go and get its own food and to eat it. Ridiculous, isn't it? Yes, that can never happen but in nature it happens every day, especially when the parents think that their youngster is ready to feed itself.
Such is life.
