Fooling around at the airfield.

Our local airfield is always a hive of activity, or should I say, organized activity.

Always fun to come here and the food is great.

About a 30km drive from our town into the Stellenbosch area with farms surrounding it, the airfield keeps things as natural as possible. Of course, with the mountains as a backdrop it makes for some beautiful views. Being in a plane up high must also be amazing, as the landscape below must look like a color puzzle. They also have a big restaurant and seating for many visitors. All kinds of planes here, many owned by private people, and there are even some firefighting planes stationed here. Plus, an outstanding flying school for aspirant pilots.
So, come and have a look.

Coming in to land.

See that big yellow plane at the right hand of the photo?
125.JPG

The big yellow plane on the ground is a firebomber. The brave pilot comes from on high, close to the heart of the fire, and then the plane releases a chemical bomb on the fire.

I think the swallows were teasing the pilots, to show how they can fly.

Now look at this, a plane that looks like a toy.

But not, as the pilot waved at me when he came past after he landed.

I have also taken many other shots of different planes, but a person can only see so much of one thing in a post before one gets bored. So, I will show you also some other planes in the future. What I found interesting, are the different sounds of the plane engines when they fly. I think the swallows are also puzzled by the songs that the big metal birds make in the sky. A swallow has only one short sharp note in flight, but these big birds sing all the time in a funny drone.

Should you ever be in the vicinity, then don't miss a visit to the airfield as you will be mightily impressed.

There are many videos of the Stellenbosch Airfield on YouTube that will show you the beauty of the airfield. Tourists are also welcomed by the friendly staff.

I hope you have enjoyed the pictures and the story.

Incredible view and place, that spot looks perfect to play golf on that field Infront of the birds (plane)

Loved those photos.

Thank you and I don't think that golf would go down well, as the noise of the planes taking off and landing would spoil the golfer's concentration. Especially if he is trying for a hole in one :))
