Definitely not the sounds of silence.

Some moms might identify with this.

A baby hassling his mother for food. They are European Starlings.

Some humor if I may to entertain the readers, if there are any, with what I have in here to share. I decided to make a video as well in order for you to listen to the sound of one crying baby. I can only imagine what it must sound like for human mothers that have triplets, or six duplets when all the babies start to cry at once. It must be sheer pandemonium methinks.

We were at a campus where the NPO that works with disabled children is situated that Papillon supports. It is a very big campus with a wide-open field, and also many trees. I like to walk around here with my camera, and I have already done some posts about the birdlife at this campus. I even get the Peregrine falcon here that I posted before.

Now come and listen to the little starling. There were two, but the other one started looking for his own food, but not the troubled little guy.

A lady dove in a conversation with Mrs Starling to try and ease her haggard emotions, but she continued franticly to search for food for the baby.

The other cheeky baby even came to tell Mrs dove to mind her own business:)
047.JPG

A female Olive Woodpecker juvenile (Dendropicos fuscescens) sat in a tree above the starlings.

SILENTLY, watching what was going on below the tree,
052.JPG

Instead of shouting down for the starling baby to shut up, she rather turned her head up to pray and asked the feathered god to stop the noise, as it scared the tree bugs away.
055.JPG

Finally, another melee took place.

A pied crow landed, and the guinea fowls did not take kindly to a crow landing in their territory.
056.JPG

So, the male started shouting at the crow to get out of there.
057.JPG

When I said that he shouted, you can see below how upset he was, as his family also started to arrive.
064.JPG

These are all wild birds, and at times a guinea fowl flock visits the area. I counted 53 of them at one stage. The problem is that the pied crows also regard it as their territory, as they nest in a big pine tree across from where the guineas feed. There are also Cape Spur Fowls that live here. Not only that, as there are also canaries and sunbirds around, and of course the sparrows nest in the crevices of a building.
Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

Oh to hear birds' chirps again is so soothing to the ears. Im glad you attached a video to show us and let us hear what you heard. That European starlings relationship as mother and offspring is so funny a d cute. The mother now does her responsibility as a mother and one of it is to feed her kid even if her kid is a bit demanding. LOL. And og that guinea fowl must have landed in the wrong land and place. I pity her. I hope she had a good place to land that is away of ungrateful bird species 🤣❤️

Glad that you heard what I heard in the video, and yes, that baby is a real handful for the mother to control. The guinea fowl is the leader, and he warned the family about the danger presented by the crow.

Some months ago (here in Italy now the winter is close to us) I watched a similar scene in my backyard, a baby European Starlings hassling the mom and it was funny. 😁

Glad that you also saw the tantrums of a starling baby, and they should now be all grown up in order to survive your winter season milady.

Glad that you liked the details, and we only do what we can for others that are much worse off than ourselves. I just so wish that many others will also do it.
