Crow raiders in action.

They posted a lookout and started to apply their trade.

No problem for the crow to start to pick a hole in the bag.

Every Tuesday we have to put our waste bins out to wait for a municipal truck's arrival. The truck has hydraulic lifters at the back that lifts the bins to drop the waste into a big container situated at the back on the truck's body. The crows also know the truck system, and they scout around for overloaded bins like the one in the pictures in this post. Crows are very intelligent and in the case of their bin raids, they know all of the tricks to search the overloaded bins for food.

This one below was the lookout, and he will warn the others of the truck's arrival, and if the owner of the bin appears.

Deftly, the crow continued to make a hole in the bag.

And finally, the bag was open. The crow at the right bottom told his wife to wait as she will get her turn at the bag.

But like some females, she ignored her husband and also jumped up on to the bag:)

Yuck! She dropped a green leaf.

And here the first crow also spat out some dried grass.

So, the crows realised that there was only garden refuse in the bag, and no score. And so, the gang decided to depart.

Below were some other bins, with their lids closed, as it should be.

This was not our bin that the crows sat on, as we have learned the lesson of keeping our bin's lid closed. It's a simple lesson but often ignored, as if there was food in the bag the crows would rip the whole bag apart and leave a great mess in the road after they were done. We have waste pickers here that come around to look for empty cans and plastic bottles for recycling. They search all of the bins, and they carry away their finds in big bags.

The people tolerate them because the unemployment figure in this country is sky high. At least, they don't go around begging and instead they are paid by the weight of every bag that they deliver. At times, when we moved in here, I found a big mess in the road around our bin, and I blamed the waste pickers, but instead the crows were the real culprits.
Such is life.
