Come and see what I found.
A friend told me about it and we decided to go and investigate. So what do you think is inside this old building?
I found a few pieces of my distant past inside and hope that I have kindled your interest.
We traveled to a seashore town especially to see this and I have posted the first part of our travels in my post on #silverbloggers earlier today.
I wanted to do this post earlier, but we had an emergency power cut, so all my plans for the day were shipwrecked.
So I hope that this post will also be liked.
We traveled down to park our car at the sea front as we wanted to visit the white building at the right-hand side.
Now this amazing organ is what we found inside the building. A shop called "Voetstoots" meaning that whatever you buy is at own risk with no returns or guarantees. This was how people did business in the old days.
Estey Organ Company was an organ manufacturer based in Brattleboro, Vermont. The company was founded in 1852 by Jacob Estey, who bought out another Brattleboro manufacturing business. At its peak, the company was one of the world's largest organ manufacturers, employed about 700 people, and sold its high-quality items as far away as Africa, Great Britain, Australia, and New Zealand. Estey built around 500,000 to 520,000 pump organs between 1846 and 1955. Estey also produced pianos, made at the Estey Piano Company Factory in New York City.

So now I know where the name "Vermont" comes from as we have a suburb called "Vermont" in the town of Hermanus.
This particular pump organ was manufactured in 1905 and the reason why I love it is that my mom could play beautiful music on it on our farm when I was a child.
Although the price of this organ was very good, we could not afford it as I am saving up to pay for another operation.
Now let's have a look at the other goods in the shop.
Another interesting tidbit.
In the photo below we see the first landing of a Portuguese ship in the bay, as they thought it was the Cape Point bay.
There is a huge rock overhanging the sea called "Hangklip", meaning "Hanging Stone" and the Potuguguese often mistaked it as Cape Point. So they often had to turn around and they called the bay, "Cabo Falso" meaning "False Bay".
This information is in a book called, "Cape of Storms and surprises" by Perry Martin.
Life in the days of the 1950s.
A picture depicting the early settlers getting ready for a battle.
Finally two chandeliers made with masses of old light bulbs.
As all of this is on sale, I figured it best to post it in my friend @dswigle lovely #marketfriday community. Simply because markets are for goods on sale. Makes sense doesn't it :)
History was one of my strong subjects at school as it holds so many fascinating stories and adventures. David Livingston and other brave souls like him had great experiences in the tough African conditions with none of the modern equipment that we have today and they were real path finders. A very sad period was also the slave trade and nowadays we try to beat it with the illegal wildlife trade. Africa holds a vast number of stories about the stripping of the continent of people and minerals and it continues to this day.
Just a sad swansong here and I hope that you liked the pictures.
And That's All Friends. (Now to wait for the next power cut!)

Omg what a piece that beautiful organ! did you try and make it sound? maybe it wasn't allowed to but I would have asked for sure if I would have been there hahaha.... wouldn't have been able to resist. Its clean lines and moderate decoration got me as well as it seems to be in a really nice condition. What a pity that you cannot afford it but first things first and hope you soon are able to gather the needed.
My mom would have loved the little spoons collection, she was able to have many although I don't know what happened to them exactly, too many hands around I'm afraid. In another time I would have broken on fury but nowadays I give few value to things and more to time and feelings...
A great report as always with wonderful shots, thanks for sharing them with us.
You know, always my best wishes to you and your people 🤗
Thank you and I loved the songs that my mom used to play on an organ like that. A pity that she didn't teach my two sisters to play on the organ and now it's too late as they are all dead. But such is life.
They don't allow any touching of the items and I could only look as I thought that I would never see an organ like this again.
Maybe if it's still there next year I might have enough to buy it.
Always happens when somebody dies, a everything disappears very fast. I only had my mom's glasses as a memory. Then my ex-mom-law needed new lenses and I gave her the lenses in my mom's glasses. Now I only have the frame somewhere. Maybe when you visit some of your family members one day you will see the spoons again.
My pleasure to share and glad that you liked the post.
We pray and trust that you and your family are also well now my friend.

I like thay black in white photo which contains life in the past.
Cameras is not that in trend before so I,everytime I see.old photos could not help but to appreciate it
Thank you and yes, in the old days they could only take black and white photos.
They also had to develop their photos in dark rooms and it was quite a process.
Nowadays everything is instant.
!HBIT
Oof, loadshedding. Honestly so annoying!
I enjoy going to places like this. It's like a miniature time-warp. The old photographs are really something special. History was also one of my favourite subjects! I used to score 98-99% on the exams 😂
You know what I am talking about when it comes to power cuts 😡
Yes, a time warp indeed and that's why I have a heap of old cameras in my collection.
I also had a 1930 Hammerstein radiogram that was made in West Germany, when the wall was still up. But we were streamlining so that we don't have much stuff to move and I sold it. One of the last of my heritage pieces, but it had to go because the cabinet was too bulky.
No, no, no, don't talk percentages to me, as I responded to a challenge by a teacher once and got 100%. What a mistake as it almost ruined me. They then expected high marks and started calling me all kinds of things when I refused. So I learned a valuable lesson and deliberately kept my marks below 70% in all subjects for the rest of the prison that they call school years :)
Cheers and !PIZZA
It can be difficult to let go sometimes. But the freedom of space is also valuable!
As for that mistake, I too learnt it the hard way. Especially in Physical Science, which was not a favourite subject. The way that teacher bugged me and the kids looked at me. I dropped my marks pronto after that!
Totally agreed and not only the freedom of space, as also personal freedom leaving the chains of the past behind.
Hahaha, I wonder how many kids had and still have the same problem. I saw school as a prison and escaped as soon as I could. The difference is of course that during my later study years I enjoyed it, as there were no teachers around to give me a hard time.
Such is life.

Wow! this place is amazing as it contains a lot of things, paintings, pictures of the past. Those things are old and it can be considered antique. We seldom things like that.
Thanks for sharing it with us @papilloncharity.
Thank you and yes most of the towns over here have many antiques and artifacts of their histories on show. Beautiful artifacts that date back right to the 16oos.
My pleasure to share and take care @jenthoughts

The pump organ is a beauty! Did you get to play it? What an incredible piece and I want to thank you for showing it off to us! Do you play the organ? I can play the organ, but, the pump organ was much more challenging. :) We had an old one in our summer house that was bought at an auction and the kids were interested in seeing how it worked. Best $26 I ever spent! Needless to say, the bellows were worn out and all I could get was air running through it. That was so disappointing and there was no easy way to fix it.
I hope you do get your pump organ someday! I am curious how much they wanted for a beauty like that? What a treat to show off!
I want to thank you for being a part of the #MarketFriday Challenge. I have personally found there is always so much to learn about people, where they live, and how things are done in different parts of the world. For me, reaching out across the globe and learning about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, has been such a rewarding experience. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the rituals, festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... and what is normal for us? There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. We do differ in many ways, which makes us interesting and unique, but, there are many ways in which are so much alike.
Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Thank you Lady Denise and no I did not touch it as it is not permitted. Nope I cannot play an organ as I have 2 left hands and 2 right hands, so they get confused when I try to get them to work together :)
Great that you can play an organ and this one was in excellent shape. So sad to see that your one had a worn out bellows and I wonder if nowadays there are any specialists that can fix the old organs.
They want ZAR6000 for it.
Blessings and lots of !LUV from us.
