After effects of a huge fire.

We had a severe fire here in the mountains and hundreds of hectares were destroyed.
139.jpg

280 hectares lost and the amazing thing is that we saw the fire starting. I took the photo above on the 8th of June.
We noticed the smoke and went to a farm close by to have a look what it was. So for the next four days I took some pictures of the fire every day.
We have a heap of fires in the area every year and our experienced fire-fighters have to face some very dangerous situations at times.
Especially where properties and life are in danger and for instance in this fire 5 houses were destroyed. Thankfully no human lives were lost, but hundreds of little animals couldn't beat the odds.

And here was the view of the sun on a road in the town.

Now to show you some photos of the aftermath.

This was the view before the fire and we as members of the nature reserve visited on a regular basis. At the right hand side of the dam were many large and beautiful Protea flower bushes and the Protea is also South Africa's natural flower.

089.JPG

All gone as you can see below and destruction all over the place.

This was our entrance at that little footpath at the right.

248.JPG

251.JPG

New life has already started as there were some geese with babies next to the water duct. The grass has also started growing again and this is how life progresses.
Many people ask why South Africans are so tough, but we learn the lessons of nature, as after a fall we simply get up, dust ourselves off, and get going again.
228.JPG

Two little mating dragonflies below on a burnt out dam.
164.JPG

Here is another before and after.
Before.
147.JPG

After.
158.JPG

The good thing about the fire, is that the termite heaps become ovens and they will provide a temporary relief from the termites, but they will also soon be back again.
186.JPG

Marian stood here on the walkway surrounding the dam, and by now you know that most of the walkway was gone.
323.JPG

This is the walkway now, but it will soon be restored.
193.JPG

224.JPG

So this Spring, I will have no Sugarbirds to post for photos on the Protea flowers, but by next Spring 2023 they will be sure to be back.
304.JPG

South Africa has hundreds of fires every year and although the fires in nature will always be restored due to natural growth, the fires in the townships where at times 600 homes are destroyed, are the more dangerous ones. Residents have learnt to vacate immediately, but in some sad cases many old people and small children perish in the fires. The shacks in the townships are built very close to each other, and it only takes for one shack to catch alight late night for an entire township to be destroyed.

Most of the people in the shacks are unemployed, and they cannot afford bigger ground, so the townships are springing up all over the place. Built by people that migrate into the province in their hopes and search for employment. They are prepared to live in horrid conditions, and to face the odds in their desperate search for a better life. Houses are being built by the government for the masses, but it is a never ending battle of a continual inflow that simply cannot be overcome.

Such is life here, and I hope that you have enjoyed the photos.

And That's All Friends.

Hi my friend. Yeah with this fires here every year are bad. The other day we read that there was a fire on a farm and everything was burning down. Even their house. It's so sad every year of the fires....
Last year there was the fires here in the norhen cape and our farm was also burned down. Except at our homes. But must say that was a good thing this year the new grass came out out and more food for the animals.

I'm sad for the people at the shacks they live in such small places. And some of them doesn't have food to eat and so.

Have a wonderful Saturday 👋😃

Hi and yes, the fires create much damage and cost many lives over here.
Good that your houses were not burnt and the reckon for fynbos to survive there has to be a fires in order for them re-generate visa also for the protea bushes.

Sadly it seems to be a never ending battle for the people in the shacks.

Yeah I feel very sad for them that stay in the shacks. And the people that always try to put out the fire. Here near us there was a fire about 2 weeks ago. The one guy died at the fire. That's so sad. 😪

Fires are dangerous and accidents can happen in a blink of an eye. Many have lost their lives in the fires and it is always a sad occasion.

That is awful! I wonder what causes these natural fires. I feel bad for residents who lost something in the course of this disaster.

Many things can cause fires such as, lightning, hot days, winds blowing sparks from camping fires and of course arson.
Yes, we all feel bad as they have lost everything that they owned.

What a huge fire. I felt so sad seeing these pictures. Those animals living there.

We have many fires here and they always leave a trail of destruction. It is indeed sad to see the little dead animals.

It's terrifying when they take off!

And the wind out there...

Long term you're gonna see it blossom madly.

But the animals and the people... :(

No comment on the promised housing that is dragging on forever and the conditions 80% of our population still endure. Not today. But one day when I'm well and strong enough to fight that good fight again in one way or another.

Came to find you and say hey hello.

Hey hello also to you and you found me,

Yes, terrifying and somehow strangely beautiful to watch the dancing flames of death. Almost like a scorching of one's soul experience. To hear the screeching of the fleeing birds and the helpless little animals and one is totally powerless in it all.
Life is but a dream and one just has to endure the wiles of it.

A never ending battle for proper housing and we try to help where we can, but the problem just continues to grow.

Be blessed.
Zac.

What a marvelous reply. I'm glad I came and found you

Life is but a dream

I had this awakening experientially a couple of years ago and it has made it hard to act when necessary at times

But then again it's better than running oneself ragged to help the world

A philosophical approach really helps with the balance :)

After much disillusion I found that change does happen but it takes time

So on we go!

Wishing you a peaceful Sunday 🌸

Balance is one of the important things in life and after 2 burn-outs it was drilled into me that if I am dead then I can't help anybody. A further warning was that an artery that feeds my brain was blocked resulting in a light stroke, but it was fixed by them inserting a hosepipe (stent) into the artery and now I just cruise along on grace and borrowed time.

One can at times wait very for long for desired changes, but usually when it happens, it comes along with many unexpected bonusses. So patience is the way to go.

On we go indeed my friend, lugging along our doubts and insecurities. Once that we learn to drop it off, then change has a better chance of appearing. I was a very driven person and could easily work for 24 hours on many days. Now I sleep normal hours and allow life to take it's flow.

May your Sunday, or what's left of it also have been great.

On we go indeed my friend, lugging along our doubts and insecurities. Once that we learn to drop it off, then change has a better chance of appearing.

Change is actually possible every second. I mean... it's happening all of the time so we only have to let go, right?

I'm ready. :)

But as you so rightly said, I had to let go of the fear... to be ready.

I'm sorry to hear of your health stuff. I'm also what would be considered "chronically ill". Lung thing.

But I got over the fear of death during COVID.

So on we go. And we make the most of it. Because... well... life has a conclusion. And best to enjoy the ride.

Hope yours was a good day too!

Oh yes, somebody said that change is a constant and it is so true, as life is full of surprises.
Some good and some bad, just like the sun shines on both good and bad.
We just have to learn to roll with it and prevent the idea that anything is personal.

Health is another thing that affects all of us and it is what it is. Also something to just roll with with as what will be, be will be. I sound almost like que sera sera :)
The future is not ours to see.

Covid sucks and a few friends suffered badly. Luckily it avoided us.

Yep and it is the conclusion that matters as then it's all over. So we simply have to make the most of our journeys in this life right now.

A misty and wet day and hope that yours was better.

I think acceptance, being in the moment as much as possible and letting go of the outcome of things is a marvelous way to walk in the world :)

Also misty and rainy here today, but it was nice to stay indoors and relax a bit.

Summer is coming!

The way to be in my mind. Just to be.

We are running the Cape Doctor here, a very strong South-Easter wind that blows almost everything in it's path away. So yes, indoors are the best, but I don't like it very much to be cooped up indoors.

Soon and I wonder if we will see new heat records this summer.

Hey hey... be present!

;)

Yes. But the wind means...

summer is on it's way!

I can't wait. This was one cold winter. Wow!

I hear you. There really is no other way to Be :)

Stay warm, my fellow traveler. The sunshine is on its way. 🌼

Strangely I felt that the winter was not as cold as a few years ago. At that time we had snow on the mountain peaks here, but this time nothing.
I am one of those that now prefer the cold over the intense heat and in my younger days it was the other way round.

Having said that, we have an ideal day today with a clear sky, no wind and a temp of 24C.
It is when it gets close to the 40Cs that it gets to me.
My lovely shoulder length locks of hair have been repossessed by the dry cleaners for non-payment and now I have to go around with a cap to protect my head from frying my brain :)

Have a nice day Nicky!

Ah... aging has its perks! Think of how much we'll save on hair products!

Beautiful out here as well but... surprise surprise... still in my gown and pajamas (half anyway). But I'm resting so I'm okay with that.

Lots of sunny days coming!

Keep that hat on!

Happy Weds back :) 🌼

Hahaha, my mistake, as I have never used hair products and maybe y locks would still be around if I did.

No, no, no, I am not going to ask which half 😁

Western Cape will be the coldest province in the country for at least another week. New cold front landing soon.

Weds done, Thurs done and Happy Friday !LOLZ

It's unfortunate about the fires especially there are so many every year. I know sometimes fires are good to renew the landscape, but if it causes so much damage and costs to human life it is really a massive issue. Luckily you guys are so resilient and can live through all this.

By the way, this is not a travel post and shouldn't be posted in Pinmapple. It would be more suited in other communities, maybe Amazing Nature, or Thoughtful Daily Post? Please take note for future reference, thanks!!

Oh yes, it is indeed a struggle with the runaway fires worldwide and Europe is also suffering.

My sincere apologies for posting in the wrong community and I have taken note to only post travel posts in Pinmapple.
Thank you for the advice and have some !PIZZA
