A sign in the bush!

I said that I will show you the boutique tent that we stayed in on the glamping trip.
IMG_2887.jpg

Camping has been upgraded with the catchy word glamping and now they call it boutique camping.

Many guys struggle to get their girlfriends or their wives to go and stay with them in a tent that is situated in the wild. Or even in their own tents for that matter. But guys, all is not lost, as if your ladies see this tent they will queue to go with you :)
We booked for 4 days, but sadly could only stay for two and it was a very enjoyable two-day adventure.

Now we are not the type that can sit around in an air-conditioned tent the whole day, as there was much to explore and to see. I believe in extracting full value from our short break aways and we go out far and wide. It was really a great visit and bone tired at night, one can sit at a fire after a hot private shower. But somebody has to make the fire and luckily, I have been making fires since my childhood as I had to keep the little hot water combustion stove on the go for my gran, my mom, my two sisters and lastly me to bath.
But I digress, so come and see.

We arrived at the main gate entry, and one has to enter a code for the gate to open.
IMG_2895.JPG

Our first view, and you can see how lovely this is.
IMG_2902.JPG

We were in the process of unloading the car and I snapped a quick shot.
IMG_2908.JPG

My wife was delighted by the little bird that came to welcome us :)
IMG_2961.JPG

This little spider also seemed to be excited at our arrival.
IMG_2993.JPG

Right! Now I will show you the inside of the tent.

But first the wooden deck and the fireplace.
IMG_3010.JPG

Home away from home isn't it?
A complete kitchen with a gas stove top on the counter and a fireplace for the cold nights.
IMG_2916.JPG

A full double bed in the room with an air conditioner mounted above the top end of the bed.
IMG_2917.JPG

A gas geyser runs the shower and a smart hand basin. I am sure that I don't have to show you the full flush toilet at the other end of the bathroom.
IMG_2918.JPG

So great and here was the kiddies room.
IMG_2919.JPG

And so, in the late afternoon I started the fire for the meat, and my wife was making a salad inside the tent.
IMG_3025.JPG

I made sure that the fire was going well, and had some time to take a few photos.
IMG_3026.JPG

My wife had some spare cheese from the salad, and it is the first time that we saw a Masked Weaver and a Fiscal Shrike eating together, as they are normally enemies. But hunger creates new friendships :)
IMG_3161.JPG

Look! What do you think this was, as I got a big surprise?
IMG_3000.JPG

It was a young Malachite Sunbird male, and you can see the mix of colors have not gelled yet to form his normal green coat. But in the photo above, you can see that his back is already well developed.
IMG_2952.JPG

Just a final shot to show you the beauty.
IMG_3006.JPG

My apologies for the long post and the long wait to see the inside of the tent, but I wanted to do a top quality post and although typing with only one finger, I was determined to show you the beauty, the place, and the tent, and the birds were a bonus. We made big friends with the birds over the period that we were at the tent, and early morning they were waiting for us so that they could have breakfast. All free of course :)

I hope that you have enjoyed the story and the pictures.

And That's All Friends.

Cactus in flower soon to fruit all in all a treat for the Malachite Sunbird, birds realize so quickly where people put out a little for them to enjoy.

Lovely little hideaway to find peace and quiet visiting outside busy seasonal guests.

I was so surprised to see a Malachite in this area, as it borders on the Karoo, but yes, there it was. The foothills of the mountains have prickly pear cactuses all over the place.

Yep, out of season is the best way to visit these places, but the month was a little too hot. Our next foray will take place in the cooler months.

Very well distributed over all the Western Cape, lower Northern Cape, Lesotho, inland KZN and Eastern Cape and from Gauteng eastward to the escarpment and eastern Free State, some found in patches from South Africa all the way up to Ethiopia.

Breeding season now one will see them in many places I would imagine, you were fortunate having a flowering cactus to attract him out into the open.

Yep and agreed as they are very hardy plants and they grow very big here in the Cape.

Near breeding season as they are still chasing the young females around. Sixy also has only a short tail yet, but soon the bombing and the fun will start.

Birds are breeding already, well into the season now perhaps second round will ensue with starting a bit earlier with warm wet conditions.

Hahaha, I so love to see them in action and so amazing that they return to the same areas every year.

A friend told me that they were planting a million spekbooms somewhere in an Easter Cape reserve to restore the area. Good news indeed.

Some major altercations last year with two males trying to dominate the tree!

Spekboom is easy to plant, we have many in the garden, nice to take a fresh leaf or two from the top to nibble on when outdoors.

Ah! I love to watch those sixy fights, once upon a time ago I saw two wrestling on ground.

Yes, they are edible and it is such a great idea to replant that reserve with spekbooms. We had one at the previous house, but not here yet (soon).

Crazy birds to watch during mating season, think they really are bigger than the really are.

Have a wonderful Thursday, half the morning gone not having electricity once again. Such is life!

Maybe it's because of those suits that the birds wear. They think that the fancy clothes maketh the man.

Join the club And now as I type this, we are in a powercut, but I got us an Inverter and it seems to work great thus far. At the moment I have only our 2 PCs and the fridge plugged in, as I want to see how much power it pulls out of the Lithium battery during a full 2:30hr period of load shedding.
A luta Continua.

Good morning Hannes,

Thank you and it is indeed a very peaceful place. The trick is to visit out of season as then we have the place all to ourselves. You love to climb and the last big hill before the mountain has a footpath that is about 1 kilometer long. The problem for me was that it is at a 45-degree gradient and with my bad knee I will never get up to the top. The view from the top must be spectacular 😮

Your wife will certainly love it there and the good news is that there are also other glamping places across the province. Now to find them and to visit each one 👍

Cheers and thanks.

Good evening Zac,

45 degrees are quite steep if you have a bad knee and I wished I would know a working solution for you. From up there you would certainly have an amazing view.

We have booked our holidays in Croatia and it's just like glamping there - no tent, but small mobile homes right at the sea (hopefully). We have been there years ago with friends, and next year we go there with the same friends again.

Hi Hannes,

I can climb lesser degree gradients, but then I have to keep my left stiff, without bending the knee. It acts as an anchor and my right leg does the climbing. Same thing when I climb on the roof 😉

Would you believe that I once worked at a company that built small mobile homes? You are right as they are very similar to the glamping tents, the only difference being that the tents have much more space.
So you say at the sea "hopefully"? Have you not booked a sea facing place? Or is it a throw of the dice and you have to take what they give you?

Cheers and thanks.

Hi Zac,

I can imagine that's not the most comfortable way to climb and certainly dangerous when you climb on the roof, but I do know that you take care.

I believe everything you say, my friend 😀
Compared to the tent you have shown, the mobile homes are really smaller, I believe.
All mobile homes are close to the sea, but some are closer 😉 and we do hope that we will get the closer ones. So you are right, it's a throw of the dice 🎲

Hi Hannes,

It was difficult at the beginning, but I have mastered it over the years and the only problem is that my right leg works overtime.

Be careful Hannes about believing everything that anyone says to you. I don't want you to cry long tears if I had said something that sends you op on the mountain (Mentally) 😁 !LOLZ
Nobody is perfect you know 😉

Well in that case, prayer can certainly help and you will make do with whatever you get, as you know life my friend 😉

Cheers and thanks.

Hi Zac,

I understand, and as said before, I hope that you take care 😀

Well, I know that you don't lie, and I know that anyone who lies to me don't need to talk to me anymore.

We will take what we get and live with it - we won't spend much time there anyway 😉 !LOLZ
