A cloud collapse onto the mountains.

The persistent strong winds just continue to sow havoc over here.
092.jpg

No wonder they call this place the "Cape of Storms", as over the ages many ships have been blown onto the sharp rocks in the sea. Some of the old shipwreck skeletons can still be seen on the coasts. Methinks that only the mountains can withstand the onslaughts of the very strong wind gusts, but the mountains also bear the scars of their battles with the elements.

When I say that the strong winds sow havoc over here, it means that we are now in the wildfire season, and thousands of hectares have already been burnt. Not only that, but house roofs are blown off by the wind gusts and even our car door was damaged recently. Warnings are out for people to be careful, and it feels like the wind is never going to stop.
Come and see what I have to share.

Three shots below to show you how the cloud collapse started.

The clouds were riding nice and high over the mountain peaks.

But then a cross wind arrived, and the clouds collapsed in tears on the mountains. :)

Later in the afternoon.

I showed you a sun halo in yesterday's post, and I told you that it was a sign that rain would be on its way.
058.JPG

Here below is a closer look at the head of the cloud above. It looked like rain was imminent, but no, we had no rain.

And at sunset the strong wind gusts took a rest.

The wind had cleared the skies, except for this remnant of the clouds, and it was beautiful.

Ever so slowly the cloud glided across the sky until it was blackened by the start of nightfall.

I am sure that it is not only me that is shown the stories in the sky but if so, then it is my pleasure to share the stories with you, but if you also post stories in the sky then let me know in the comments. Sadly, we had no rain, and our dam levels are dropping every day, but I trust in the sun halo's appearance that signals impending rain. So maybe tomorrow, or the day after we should have rain, and if it arrives, I will do a post on it.

Now here is another strange thing. We are in a winter rainfall area over here near the coast and behind us is a mountain range that closes us in, on the other side of the mountain range inland it swops into a summer rainfall area. Makes your head spin, doesn't it, but we often also get some rain here in summer. So, that sun halo could signal rainfall in an area behind the mountains and it will be okay as that is where our main water feeder dam is situated. So, let's hope that the dam levels will increase.
Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

The contrast between the clouds, the mountains, and the sun is beautiful, bathing them in color... I hope the fires subside with the rains, but also that the rains don't cause so much devastation to the inhabitants and the environment. Excellent work with the photos. Congratulations!

I also love the colors, especially during the different parts of the day. No rains yet, but it is due, and other areas of the country has floods. Thank you for the compliment :)

In Belgium weather is not often very sunny, but we do not face storms either... or really only seldomly.

You are so lucky not to have severe storms, and maybe the sunlight has something to do with it. Over here, the brighter the sun, the worse is a storm. Landslides demolish houses and roads, and floods wash everything in its path away.
