Viaje relámpago a Jaca // Lightning trip to Jaca

Hola querido hiver.

Hi, dear hiver.
On the day I visited Jaca Cathedral, I also had time to take a short stroll around the city. We had just over an hour, the distances were short, and the weather was pleasant for walking.
Before arriving, we could see the snow-capped peaks of the Pyrenees in the distance from the road. The landscape sometimes offered us postcard-perfect views.
Once in Jaca, and after completing the first part of the business we had gone there to do, the first point of interest was the cathedral. The city's shopping streets are located around it, and as the Christmas holidays were approaching, there was a lot of shopping activity. On weekends, they are usually full of tourists.
A few metres from the cathedral is the main road, which coincides with the Way of St James. Jaca owes its importance to being the first urban centre of any significance reached from France via the central route through the Pyrenees. Two buildings catch our attention here: a modernist building and another used for military purposes. We explore the latter a little further.
Tr: Citadel of Jaca. The star of the Pyrenees
The Citadel of Jaca is a unique fortification, both for its age and for its practically intact state of preservation. Since the 16th century, it has maintained garrisons to defend the territory, although they have hardly ever been used. Today, it is also used as a site of cultural interest, and a large part of the facilities can be visited.
The time to return was approaching, so we only went as far as the entrance gate to the citadel, without going inside. The passage is zigzagged, as if we were in a labyrinth, and crosses the large moat via a drawbridge. This reminds us of the defensive nature of the construction.
In the moat there is a herd of deer, which this time must have been elsewhere, seeking the little sunshine that appeared from time to time between the clouds. We were not lucky enough to see them.
I was taking some more creative photographs when we were told to finish our errand. End of the walk, although on the way I still stopped to photograph some of the facades that have been preserved, more or less cared for or restored, there is a bit of everything.
Until the next post. In the meantime, take care!

The architecture of the citadel looks very unique and interesting! Nice share!
The only building I knew in the shape of a pentagon is the one in the USA. And it is also dedicated to Defence. 🤔😁

Oooh, thank you so much! ☺️
intresting to see this old fortress , we have cities build like that in the past here in Holland .
Like Naarden https://maps.app.goo.gl/Gkkqm1iirS1yuaCcA and Brielle https://maps.app.goo.gl/nhdqvveEUT9LuiaLA
found a dutch website it seems we have like 160 cities like that from the past https://www.skyscanner.nl/nieuws/mooiste-vestingsteden-nederland
Wow how curious, I didn't know of any other place with that shape apart from the American Pentagon. And it turns out that there are scattered throughout Europe. The origin is Italian, or so Wikipedia says:
https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traza_italiana
some souvenirs from our wars in the past , i knew we had them here in Holland but never looked any further.
🎉🎉🥳 Congratulations 🥳🎊🎊

Good afternoon Paloma, well you did see things on the whirlwind trip. I liked The Citadel, and it is certainly very well preserved. Although what I liked the most is seeing those facades of those unique buildings, some of them seemed modernist to me.
Thank you very much for this walk through Jaca.
A very big hug!!
Yes, there were quite a few modernist facades. I even saw a building under construction that they were making in a similar style so that it would not be out of tune. In tourist places they take great care of these things. Most of the houses are second homes for people who go skiing to nearby resorts.
Thanks to you for your company in this walk! 😁🤗
Thank you so much for the clarification, and thanks again for the tour.
I wish you a great start to the week.
Warm regards!, Paloma 🤗
Graciaaaas!!! 😃 feliz inicio de semana 🫂

That's a photo-miracle, from the moving car. 🚗💨 A little further there was a field with cows and I couldn't hunt them. Thanks for the support! 🤗

Never seen a similar cathedral before. We do have cathedrals that served as forts centuries ago, but they still kept a minimalist look. Love this one though!! So much history being shared in genuine pieces rather than words!!
