Paseo hasta el faro de Tabarca // Walk to the Tabarca lighthouse
Click here to read this post in English

Hola querido hiver.
Hasta la próxima publicación. Mientras tanto, ¡cuídate!

Hi, dear hiver.
I’d been meaning to share the photos I took during the Clean Planet activity on the third day of the Hive Open Days. In this post, I’ll talk about what we saw whilst walking along the nature trail that runs through the ‘wildest’ part of the island of Tabarca.
The boat trip there went smoothly. As you leave the port of Alicante, you’re treated to some lovely views, with Santa Bárbara Castle taking centre stage.
Once back on dry land, we enjoyed the island’s food and beach. After lunch, we were given the tools to collect rubbish safely and gathered in groups to set off on our walk.
The route is a circular nature trail. It is very easy to follow if you stick to the signposted paths, and there is hardly any incline in the first section. Although the landscape remains largely unchanged, you will come across a few buildings, and if you keep an eye on the ground, you’ll spot plants and animals.
On the first part of the route, you walk very close to the sea, almost at the edge of the cliffs. If you look to your left, you’ll see the Tower of San José, a watchtower that once served as a prison and dates from the 18th century. The absence of trees is striking, with all the vegetation being low-growing.
Near the tower, I had the chance to experience a magical moment: a seagull that had been hiding amongst the grass took flight above our heads and circled several times, allowing us to take some great photos of it.
The next point of interest, and the destination of our walk, is the island’s lighthouse. Before reaching it, I had another moment of wonder when I discovered where the surrounding Posidonia sea grass ends up when it dies. It accumulates in a cove and looks like rocks from a distance, but turns out to be soft formations that seagulls use to raise their chicks. The pair seen in the photograph remained watchful and menacing to ensure we didn’t get too close and disturb them – which, of course, we respected.
We walked round the lighthouse. We could have carried on a little further to the furthest point of the island, but we didn’t want to be late for the return boat. The path was set back from the coastline, but this meant we could see the entrance to the Torre de San José up close.
We were almost at the harbour when another seagull calmly posed for us. Although I suspect it was actually just making sure we’d all left so it could rest in peace. 😂
Until the next post. In the meantime, take care!

Bonito paseo!
We appreciate your work and your publication has been hand selected by the geography curation team on behalf of the Amazing Nature AN Community. Keep up the good work!
Hiiiii! What a treat, both for you who went and for me who got to read about it. 😍 This thing with the sea grass is interesting. Oh yes, I read it first in Spanish and understood almost everything, all those movies and series I have watched finally paid off, hehe. Do you perhaps have a new thriller to recommend that is really, really goooood? <3
Aww and do you know something more about this walk? I did it accompanied by LUT aka @ livinguktaiwan!! 🤩 I’m glad you liked the post.
The latest thrillers I've seen and I've found good are Tenet, Three billboards outside Ebbing, The invisible guest (this one is a Spanish film) and Crime 101. And I watched the Peaky Blinders TV series and is awesome!!

I live in a mountainous area, then those photos of ocean view always impress me. Thanks a lot.
The ocean makes you feel small but the mountains cause the same effect on me. And if I have to choose, I prefer the mountains. 😊
Hola!!
It was wonderful to read about this island. The photos are beautiful; we missed the opportunity to join you all. However, your photos take me on that journey. Thank you for sharing!
The best thing about this walk was to do it accompanied by other hivers, I hope we can coincide sometime! 🤗

What a beautiful place, and you captured those nooks so well—I simply love them. Plus, you’re sharing details about the experience along the way.
I’m heading to Dénia this week—I believe it’s near Alicante—with my daughter and son-in-law, so I’ll be on the lookout for new spots that we love sharing, and trying to snap some great photos to post.
Warm regards.
