Palmas y tambores en el Domingo de Ramos // Palms and drums on Palm Sunday

Hola querido hiver.

La Semana Santa se vive de manera intensa en Zaragoza. Mi barrio cuenta con una cofradía desde mediados del siglo pasado y me gusta salir a verla siempre que el tiempo y las ganas acompañan.

El Domingo de Ramos ya es tradición que salgan en procesión por las calles cercanas a la parroquia titular. No llevan ninguna imagen, ya que estas pertenecen a momentos de la Pasión de Cristo y en este día es todo celebración. Tampoco llevan las caras tapadas por el mismo motivo.

Lo que no falta es la sección de instrumentos. Tambores, timbales, bombos y trompetas aportan un sonido peculiar que invade las calles. Cada redoble o llamado tiene un significado que aumenta o disminuye de intensidad acompañando los diferentes momentos que se estén celebrando.

Traté de capturar con mi cámara esos detalles que pasan desapercibidos al admirar el conjunto, pero que conforman los símbolos y rituales de iniciación y pertenencia a una tradición que se remonta a tiempos pasados y que se transmite de generación en generación.

Uniformados con sus hábitos morados y sus capas blancas, los cofrades forman un ejército de devoción. Sus toques, en especial los de los bombos, retumban en las entrañas. Son momentos en los que no puedes hablar, solo permanecer en comunión con ese sonido y las personas que te rodean.

Este año me dio la impresión de que la procesión era menos numerosa que en anteriores ocasiones, tanto en los cofrades como en los espectadores, en su mayoría familiares y amigos de los integrantes de la cofradía.

Me acuerdo de los que ya no están, alegrándome de estar presente un año más. Ayudando a mantener viva la tradición, aunque solo sea como espectador.

Hi, dear hiver.

Holy Week is lived intensely in Zaragoza. My neighbourhood has a brotherhood since the middle of the last century and I like to go out to see it whenever time and desire accompany.

On Palm Sunday it is already tradition that they go out in procession through the streets near the titular parish. They do not carry any image, since these belong to moments of the Passion of Christ and on this day it is all celebration. Nor do they have their faces covered for the same reason.

What is not missing is the section of instruments. Drums, timbales, bass drums and trumpets provide a peculiar sound that invades the streets. Each roll or call has a meaning that increases or decreases in intensity accompanying the different moments that are being celebrated.

I tried to capture with my camera those details that go unnoticed when admiring the set, but that make up the symbols and rituals of initiation and belonging to a tradition that dates back to past times and that is transmitted from generation to generation.

Uniformed with their purple habits and their white cloaks, the brothers form an army of devotion. Their touches, especially those of the bass drums, rumble in the bowels. These are times when you can't talk, just stay in communion with that sound and the people around you.

This year I had the impression that the procession was less numerous than on previous occasions, both in the brothers and in the spectators, mostly relatives and friends of the members of the brotherhood.

I remember those who are no longer there, happy to be present one more year. Helping to keep tradition alive, even if only as a spectator.
