Los cabezudos de Zaragoza // The big-heads of Zaragoza

Hola querido hiver.

Hace un par de semanas te presenté a los gigantes de Zaragoza, unos personajes que recorren las calles en determinadas fiestas señaladas. En esa publicación te contaba que salen acompañados por los cabezudos y a ellos va dedicado este post.

No conseguí fotografiar a todos los cabezudos de la comparsa porque son de altura normal aunque ligeramente más altos por el tamaño de su cabeza. La afluencia de gente aquella mañana me impidió acercarme a todos ellos, así que si quieres investigar más sobre ellos te dejo aquí el enlace a la página oficial de la comparsa.

Cada cabezudo representa un personaje popular de la ciudad y todos cuentan con una cancioncilla que los niños les cantan para burlarse de ellos y hacer que les persigan. ¿Ves eso que llevan en la mano? Es un azote con el que les dan pequeños latigazos (no les hacen daño, tranquilo querido lector).

El que he elegido como portada es el Royo del Rabal, un señor que cantaba jotas. Fue el mejor de su tiempo en eso y vivía en el barrio que se llama Arrabal.

En las fotos de arriba tiene delante al Robaculeros, asociado con un médico que tenía mucho mal genio y a la Pilara, homenaje a una cantante y humorista de la ciudad.

Cierra este grupo el Torero que viste en estilo goyesco.

Los siguientes son el Morico, al parecer inspirado en un mozo de cuadras de un conde poderoso de la tierra. En su tiempo llamaba la atención por el color de su piel. Por lo que se cuenta procedía de Cuba. Es el más querido por los niños.

Debajo vemos al Verrugón, que lleva la vestimenta de los concejales de épocas anteriores y representa al poder local.

Seguimos con el Tuerto en plena acción, puedes comprobar que es un desfile bien movido y todos se hacen buenas carreras. A veces son los padres quienes más ilusión tienen por acercarse a los cabezudos, jajaja. Lo más emocionante es cuando se dan la vuelta para pillar desprevenidos a los que piensan que ha pasado el peligro. ¡Este Royo se las sabe todas!

El del sombrero de copa es el Forano. Está casado con la Forana y ambos visten como los habitantes de los pueblos de alrededor arreglados para venir de fiesta a la ciudad. En cuanto a los cabezudos faltarían por nombrar a la Serafina del Tubo y al Boticario.

Por último, hay dos figuras especiales llamadas caballicos y que se encargan de abrir paso para los gigantes, que van siempre detrás de los cabezudos.

Si no quieres recibir latigazos o te asustan los cabezudos, siempre puedes acompañarles a ellos y bailar al son de la ronda que les sigue.

Hi, dear hiver.

A couple of weeks ago I introduced you to the giants of Zaragoza, some characters that walk the streets in certain important festivities. In that publication I told you that they are accompanied by the "cabezudos" (big-heads) and this post is dedicated to them.

I didn't manage to photograph all the big-heads of the comparsa because they are of normal height although slightly taller due to the size of their heads. The crowds that morning prevented me from getting close to all of them, so if you want to find out more about them I leave you here the link to the official website of the comparsa.

Each big-head represents a popular character of the city and they all have a little song that the children sing to make fun of them and make them chase them. Do you see that thing in their hand? It's a whip with which they give them little lashes (they don't hurt them, dear reader, don't worry).

The one I have chosen as the cover is Royo del Rabal, a man who sang "jotas" (traditional songs in Aragon). He was the best of his time at it and lived in a neighbourhood called Arrabal.

In the photos above, in front of him is Robaculeros (ass-grabbers), associated with a doctor who had a very bad temper, and Pilara, a tribute to a singer and humorist from the city.

The group is closed by the Torero, who dresses in Goyaesque style.

The next are the Morico, apparently inspired by a stable hand of a powerful count of the land. In his time he was conspicuous because of the colour of his skin. It is said that he came from Cuba. He is the most loved by the children.

Below we see the Verrugón, who wears the clothes of the councillors of earlier times and represents the local power.

We continue with the Tuerto (one-eyed) in full action, you can see that it is a very lively parade and everyone has a good run. Sometimes it's the parents who are most excited to get close to the big heads, hahaha. The most exciting thing is when they turn around to catch those who think the danger has passed. This Royo knows it all!

The one with the top hat is the Forano. He is married to the Forana and they both dress like the inhabitants of the surrounding villages dressed up to come to the city for a party. As for the big-headed figures, the Serafina del Tubo and the Boticario are still to be mentioned.

Finally, there are two special figures called caballicos who are in charge of making way for the giants, who always follow the big-heads.

If you don't want to get whipped or are frightened by the big-headed figures, you can always go with them and dance to the sound of the round that follows them.
